Sponsoring a child: Parents outside Canada (In India)

Dear Members,

Myself and my wife hold PR visa of Canada. We went to to Canada in 2011 and then returned to India within 2 months after getting PR card. We returned to India to complete my ongoing PhD. Now, we are planning to go back in early 2013.

Now, we have a child who is born in India in 2012. We want to go back with our child in Canada.

So my question is, 1) Is it possible to sponsor my child while we are in India?
and what are the formalities for the same?

No - it is not possible to sponsor the child from India. One of you must be in Canada to sponsor.

But I want to take my child with me to Canada. What is the alternative way? Please suggest Me. I need your kind advise.

I dont want to go Canada alone and I dont want to keep my child and wife here in India.

If you don't want to go Canada alone, how about leaving the child behind (with a guardian such as grandparents) in India, so that both your wife and you can come to Canada to start the sponsorship?

There is nobody close here in India, with whom I can leave my child. And my child is only one and half month old.

Is there any other way to take my child with us in Canada and then apply for sponsorship there.

If yes, then for what type of visa should I need to go for?

You can try applying for a TRV for the child. If the TRV (temporary resident visa), then all of you can come to Canada and you can apply for the child's PR from within Canada. If the TRV is refused, then you can try applying for a TRP (temporary resident permit). If the TRP is refused, then one of you will have to come to Canada alone to sponsor the child while the other parent remains in India with the child until the PR application is approved.

Hi Scylla:

Me and my wife getting PR in may 2010 and go back to INDIA in june 2010. we blessed a baby child in 2011. Now only I come back to CANADA in 25-sep-12 for sponsoring my child. I have not any income during my PR. Is income required for sponsoring for 2 years old child. Plz do the needful.
