Dear Folks,
I have a q regarding family sponsorhip. I want to sposor my son to canada. I am currently on EI, its been about 7 months. But my wife works full time. Now, will CIC reject our sponsorship application because the main applicant, me, is on EI. My wife is actually a step son to my son, but is a co applicant. PLEASE answer. I am getting conficting information.
Thank you...
Meley

I could be wrong but I don't think EI is the same thing as social assistance. I'll defer, though, to those with expertise.

I agree, EI isn't social assistance, and it's okay to put in the application. Especially since the co-signer is working and has an income.

You don't need a minimum income to sponsor dependant children, so no worries.

I think there is a basic amout you need to earn in order to be accepted as a sponsor-the amounts are in the application forms and as long as you meet that reqirement I don't think it will affect your case-if your wife is a co-applicant I would think they would take both incomes into consideration, for a small amount it may be worth paying an immgration lawyer to give you full details as I know in my own situation-letters here sometimes bring very little peace of mind.I may soon be in the same situatiom if the economy doesen't improve ;) good luck
