Have you already landed in Canada? And then went back to India and got married?

If you have not landed in Canada yet, you have to tell CIC and the visa office that you got married. They will add your wife to your application, and the current PR visa you have will be canceled.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply,
I have not landed yet in canada. I was living in australia where I got my PR. Than I came to india and got married.
Now I am going to Saskatoon on my PR in mid of this month.

So basically, I have got my PR and my application got closed now. So what you're saying is that, I have to tell my CIC office in australia to add my wife's name on my file so she will get PR directly. I don't think that is possible. Or if that is possible could you please provide me any sort of information links which you're referring to.

Thanks.

Your PR visa is no longer valid since you got married. The visa was issued to you as a single person - getting married invalidated that visa. If you use your existing visa to land and become a PR - you will be committing misrepresentation (lying about your status). Doing this will mean that you will never be able to sponsor your wife and you may have your own PR status revoked for failing to declare your spouse prior to landing.

You only have one option at this time. You have to return your PR visa to the visa office and let them know you are now married. You must also submit all of the forms and evidence to add your new spouse to your application and then wait for CIC to process your spouse's paperwork. Once this additional processing is complete - CIC will then issue a new PR visa for each of you which you can then use to land.

Again - do not use the visa you have now to land and become a PR. Your only choice is to return your PR visa and add your spouse to your application.

Why, oh why, do people insist on doing this? It's incredibly bad planning and shows a lack of understanding of Canadian immigration.

As has already been stated, you have no other option except returning your CoPR and getting your spouse added to your existing application. You should note that your application is NOT closed until you have actually landed and had your CoPR document signed by the officer at the point of entry. You will not legally be going to Saskatoon in the near future, so update your plans accordingly.

You should also be aware that if for ANY reason your new spouse is inadmissible to Canada, so are you. Your CoPR would not be reissued.

As the above poster noted, your application is not 'closed' until you use your PR visa to 'land' in Canada. When you land, the border official will ask you if there have been any changes in your family status. If you say 'no' and therefore land as single, you will never be able to sponsor your wife. The documents you received clearly state that you must report all changes in your family to CIC.

Getting married after one has the PR visa but before landing is the worst possible time. It leaves you with one choice: tell CIC and the visa office you have gotten married. They will rescind your PR visa, you will then add your wife to your application, and they will issue you two new visas.

Hi Guys,
I really appreciate your response on my Case.

I was unaware of these circumstances. But I feel that I have made a mistake.

Could anyone please tell me how can I inform CIC about my relationship status. As I am in india and the CIC office from which I have issued my visa was Sydney Australia. Do anyone know about time approximation of it.

Thanks.

Inform the Sydney VO via email and then follow up with a mailed package that includes your PR visa (which is no longer valid), the updated forms to include your spouse in the application and any supporting evidence/documents required.

You should expect it will take a few months for CIC to process your wife's paperwork and reissue your visas.
