Hi All

I am currently in a confused state about which is the best way to get my would be wife to canada after marriage,as FAM sponsorship is taking way long time need your suggestions.

I am going to get married in Couple of months,i am currently on BOWP valid until june 2016 and received request to pay my RPRF fees last week didn't pay it yet .

1)Should I delay my application process by lately paying my rprf ,and then delay PP submission once requested so that I get ample of time , get married in the mean while and apply for wife's OWP get her into canada and then add her into my application .

2)Get her married and add her into my application while she is back home without applying her OWP

let me know if anyone of you have done this before with these tight timelines.thanks

Adding your new wife to your application will extend the time you will have to wait for yours to be approved - it will essentially put it on hold until your wife's application is complete.

On the other hand if you get married after you get PR you could get get OWP based on your PR and sponsor her, but the wait times are just silly 1.5 to over 2 years.

Both options kinda suck

What exactly is the process, once you add spouse to your PR application which is already in processing? Does CIC first checks for principal applicant eligibility? Any idea

They run checks for both applicants. Spouse has to go through the same criminality & security checks as primary applicant.
The only eligibility check for a spouse is "is she/he really a spouse":
- in case of a marriage they ask you for document confirming you are married + questionnaire with questions how you met, about ceremony etc - basics to asses if this is a real marriage
- in case of a common-law it's a similar questionnaire and, if both of you reside in Canada, statutory declarations from 2 Canadians confirming that they know you, you live together and to the best of their knowledge you're in a common-law relationship

I guess adding her to the existing file is better option, I did the same and we both received medical request on 7th Feb 2016.

Why wouldn't they?

The same rules apply, if she never set foot in Canada you will not need a police check from Canada but you will still need one from all the places she has been too in "recent" years and all the eligibility and other criteria will still be checked.

By how long does it increase the processing time? I have added spouse to application this year.

There is no rule. They have to complete the same checks they had to for you. If you're lucky it's going to be just a couple of weeks extra. On the other hand if you your spouse happens to be a person that will require long and detailed security check it might be a lot. I've heard that for former members of police force and military from unstable middle east and north african countries (the worst case scenario) it can be 3-5 years.

It also depends whether or not they started working on your file when you added your spouse.
If they didn't it will most likely (unless there are concerns like mentioned above for your spouse) take only a little more time. They usually process both spouses together and therefore you receive all the requests for both at the same time.
However if you add your spouse like the OP at the very end of your application processing, the file is put back on the list of pending applications and your file as to wait to be picked up and start processing again. In those cases it can add a significant delay.

what do you mean very end of application processing? does it mean after the passport request or after medicals? Till now I haven't received medical request. Also on GCMS i don't see anything, looks like they haven't touched the file.

I see in GCMS that all the documents i sent have been received by the CIC for spouse. But in client details I still see my marital status as single. Doesn't CIC update that information in GCMS and all spouse info to it? Any one have the same in notes?
