Sponsor Thai wife

I have been with my wife for over three years - married for one and a half years. My Thai wife was recently refused a TRV largely (I think) on the basis of me, as her sponsor, not providing to the agent sufficient documentation as to my financial situation. I provided 6 months of bank statements showing an income of around $4,500 /month. I had hired a Thai company to help us get the TRV (visitor visa) and they said 6 months bank statements was all I would need. How much money do I have to show to convince a CIC agent that I will support my wife no matter where we are in this world? Do I have to show Tax Assessments? Net income or can I show gross income? Can I post a bond or other surety to that effect? Can I sign a notarized document promising to be responsible for her? What to do??
We initially applied for her to accompany me back to Canada and stay for 6 months. Now we intend to apply again for a 3 month stay as I always go to Thailand for the winter months. I already have my return airline ticket to Bangkok for October 31, 2014.
Any advise greatly appreciated.

Well I don't know what to say. I see a lot of cases where someone has lots of money and assets, and a high income job, but are still refused on financial grounds. If someone who makes $4500/month take home isn't considered financially solvent in supporting a spouse, then I'm lost.

Maybe you have a high income, but your balance is low, meaning you're a big spender.

I'm assuming that you are you a Canadian citizen or PR? If so, the chances of your wife being granted a TRV are quite low. In order to get a TRV, an applicant must prove they have strong home country ties. However, CIC almost always sees a Canadian citizen/PR spouse in Canada as the strongest tie of all; in their eyes, this makes your wife a high-risk to overstay her visa.

If you are a Canadian citizen or PR, you should really consider starting the spousal sponsorship process as soon as you can.

Yeah isn't that ironic? You get a TRV to visit your spouse, but you're denied because of the fact you are married to that person in the first place :D

First time poster long time reader (forgive me I have not put our timeline up yet).

Anyways, I'll give you my advice from personal experience. Don't bother with the TRV in you're situation, they will just refuse it. Then, when you apply for spouse sponsorship you will be worrying how the refused TRV may affect the spouse PR application. My wife was refused TRV twice, because we didn't know any better and we became worried that it would red flag our case file.

Luckily we only wasted a few months and applied for spouse sponsorship right away afterwards, wife now has visa in hand after 9 months processing and is due to arrive here right away.

Being refused a TRV won't hurt your application for sponsorship in any way
It might actually strengthen it ... showing you are trying to be together
We were denied a TRV from Thailand twice before the sponsor was approved
Once the sponsor was approved we were given a TRV... when applicant landed she was given 6 months which we then extended and were given another year

It isn't about your financial situation... it is all about the ties to the home country
If your wife has a job in Thailand or owns property this will strengthen the application for the TRV

We were told after the second denial to wait until sponsor was approved... once the sponsor was approved we applied again indicating she had dual intent and wouldn't overstay her TRV and jeopardize her PR application.

We are flying to Thailand next week and on the return she will land as a PR
Good luck on your journey!!

My TRV was refused recently. I have submitted enough documentary evidences, ongoing business papers as my profession is business, property ownership, passports with valid multiple visas for USA,UK,others with long travel histories including two previous Canadian TRVs. Because my wife and children are all Canadian citizens living in Canada. I am not permitted to visit my family until PR is approved. I think its better you go ahead with spousal sponsorship ASAP.

Hey! Thanks for all the support and stories - every bit of information and sharing personal experience helps. Ya, I'm a Canadian citizen - born and bred west coaster - no criminal record.
And I hear ya about the Canadian spouse residing in Canada thing. The only juice I have to reply to that is my passport stamp record of spending every winter for the east 6 years in SE Asia - away from the cold Canadian winter and my return ticket there again this October. We also would be leaving in Thailand my wife's 7 year old daughter whom I love very much and miss immensely, I have my name in the "Yellow Book" on a small tiny slice of the Kingdom aaand ... I own other property - (2 motor bikes and a truck) - which are all in the magical Kingdom and I'm damn sure not going to leave my treasures for much more than 6 months at a time. Call me materialistic. I concur on the Spousal Sponsorship thing - Doing that now.
