To abbreviate my story ... I am married to a Canadian resident (born in Canada), we were married in Chile 8 years ago, we have 2 Chilean children who are now Canadian citizens. We just arrived 5 months ago. We rent on our own, but she is the only one who works. we no longer receive social assistance.

I will extend my visa because I am now a full-time dad and my visa is about to expire (I know I must have legal status). We know that we have to make the spouse request, but our doubts point to:
will it have to show any minimum income ?, in theory it only sponsors me, and the same page indicates that it is not an option that happens.

Is there any way to get the work permit before applying? considering that the application is very expensive and I need to help my wife financially.

We are a family that comes to meet, isn't that what Canada wants? The truth is that I need to help her with money, because it has been difficult to establish, Toronto is relatively expensive. Basically we are a young family with young children, I don't want to separate from them, they have grown up with me.

Meanwhile, we continue to raise money for the application and work permit. I thank you very much if you could guide us, because she has only her days off to process this.

Thanks!

What do you mean when you say you no longer receive social assistance? Has you family recently been on welfare in Canada?

There is no minimum income requirement but you must show that you can support yourselves without welfare.

No, you can't get a work permit before applying. It will be 3-4 months after you submit before the OWP is approved.

Why have you waited so long to apply? Why didn't you apply from Chile?

Yeah, the government was helping us, but not anymore. So step 1 done.

Why have you waited so long to apply?
Cause we just moved here to Canada 5 months ago. We were living whit my wife's aunt. And everybody say to us how do this, or that, but they just confused more. Anyway, everything is money, that's the principal reason.

Why didn't you apply from Chile?
The life in Chile was really though, the minimum salary it wasn't enough for living. It was almost impossible save money. We took a loan to coming here.

Well we still struggling xd.

(So sorry for my English, a newcomer here)
Thanks for answering.

With recently being on welfare, you will need to show a very strong plan on how you will support yourselves without going back on welfare.

Yeah, we working on it. 4 example, we don't have idea about ccb, a child benefit. We have to fix that to.

But, to be honest. I think a loan could help us to apply, we're looking for OWP. That is my key to help.

What do you think about my version, it have option to get the OWP and residence. We want to growing up here whit our kids. Chile is going to a big crisis, come back there is not an option

You can only apply for an OWP through spousal sponsorship. You would need to submit the spousal sponsorship application together with an OWP. The work permit will be approved approximately four months after the complete application package is received.

You will have to show your bank records so it will become obvious that you take out more loans that you are unable to support yourselves. Are you family members in the position to show that they have the extra funds to support your family? If not your wife needs to get a second job. That is the best option. Applying right after you got off welfare is not recommended. You should show at least 3 months of being able to support yourself, if not more, to show that you are not off welfare temporarily.
