Sponsor Parents PR while receiving EI for maternity/parental leave

Hi fellows,

My wife wants to sponsor her parents PR but she is currently receiving EI benefits for maternity/parental leave. Her 2016, 2017 and 2018 income is enough to qualify.

I noticed on the website that you are ineligible if you receive social assistance for a reason other than a disability

Does anyone have been in a similar situation? Any ideas if she is eligible this year?

EI is not social assistance, social assistance is more like welfare

Hi there, so your wife can still sponsor for her parents based on her EI from maternity leave (as long as it's enough)? I am on the same boat. Thanks.
