It is still considered illegal work. This report is just scary. LICO levels are already exceptionally low given cost of living. No acknowledgment that supervisa applicants are placing demand on our HC systems even if they take out supervisa insurance. Many do not purchase supervisa insurance after the 1st year. Given Canada’s desire to reduce temporary residents making it easier to get a supervisa makes no sense.

Read the executive summary available via the link above.

"Their assistance with household tasks and childcare are seen among the most important contributions and also constitute the main (indirect) economic benefits, as it allows hosts, especially immigrant women, to seek or increase employment or education to improve economic outcomes."

Visiting, foreign grandparents assisting with childcare is encouraged. I don't know why people spread these theories that lack humanity, go against human nature, community and valuing support over autonomy, struggle and individualism. I've seen this "illegal work" comparison used all over this site within the context of visitor grandparents.

Grandparents being grandparents is not gainful employment. It is a village.

Grandparents being grandparents is fine. Nobody is objecting to a grandparent watching a child a few hours here and there or calling that work.

The super visa allows people to see family for extended periods. If you are working age and your parents are retired, it makes better sense for them to come to you. Read the executive summary.

It's not work at all. Your point of view is robotic and seems to come from someone who doesn't understand how family works.

Parents and grandparents need to pass a medical to get the visa so I don't understand the burden on the health care system you're mentioning. If people can't see their family, the reverse migration will be rampant and the social security system will crumble.

Original Post from 2014 was about PGP and family sponsorship, not super-visa.
