Hello all, just looking for a bit of advice. Me (canadian citizen) and my wife (citizen of philippines) just got married and we just found out she is pregnant (6 weeks now) I just returned to canada and was planning to start the application to sponsor her and then when baby is born apply for our child's proof of citizenship. I am just curious if there is anyway to get her here before the baby is born? As far as I know I would have to apply for a visitor visa for her but from what I've heard it is quite hard for a filipino to be approved for a visitor visa,I guess my concern is that if I try to apply for a visitor visa our time will be wasted.

Thank you so much for any help.

What you said is correct. She must apply for and be approved for a TRV. If she can't get TRV approved, she can't come to Canada until PR is approved.

Even if she did get TRV and you applied while in Canada, you'd have to be careful about if she would even have healthcare coverage for pregnancy and delivery. If not, this could be a very expensive bill.

Note that her case may see an slightly longer processing time, since she would be advised to delay the x-ray portion of medical exam until after baby is born.

Thanks for your reply! The medical coverage I will need to look into. I guess my biggest question is what are the chances of her TRV to be approved, would it give her a better chance because she is pregnant? I was talking to a friend of mine yesterday who told me their cousin sponsored his wife (from india) and because she was pregnant she was here within 2 months, my friend is in no way a expert on this subject and of course it's different from country to country but it would sure be nice to have my family here!

no, being pregnant certainly does not improve her chance of being approved for a TRV. It actually may hinder her ability to get one, as it can be seen as proof she may not want to leave upon the end of her stay. In addition, it's usually recommended to apply for a TRV before submitting a PR application, since the PR application lowers the chance of TRV approval even more.

While it's not easy to get a TRV, it is not impossible. The applicant needs to prove significant ties to their home country such as a job and property. it is difficult to determine her chances of getting approved, as it is dependent on the information provided in the TRV application and how the officer interprets that application.

The fact that your wife is pregnant makes the odds of her getting a TRV very slim. She will need to prove without a reasonable doubt that she will not stay in Canada, and that the ties to her home country are so strong that she must go back.

There is no way your friend's cousin sponsored a spouse from India in 2 months. New Delhi averages around 8 months. IRCC does not grant any sort of expedited processing for pregnancy.

Honestly, with a Canadian citizen spouse in Canada and being pregnant, there is little chance of the TRV being approved. She will need to show significant strong ties to the Philippines.

Thank you for the feedback I think we will just go ahead with processing her PR, can I include our child in the PR application or should I wait for the child to be born then apply for proof of citizenship?

you have to wait until the child is born. you can certainly mention the pregnancy in your application to support your relationship, however IRCC will not care about it's citizenship status until the baby is born.

Hey, how is it going? How did your application go for your wife? I am in a similar situation and your feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. You can email at dolo07@aol.com

The post was from 2017. Chances are not good for your spouse to be approved and in many prrovinces your spouse will not qualify for healthcare as the spouse of a citizen or PR so you would have to pay all healthcare expenses out of pocket. What province do you live in? Have you started the sponsorship process and when? What is your wife's citizenship? Does she live in her home country? Is she currently working? Is it a well paying longterm job? Has she travelled internationally especially to countries like US,UK, Australia, etc.? How far along is she?
