Hi Everyone,

I recently acquired the PR for Canada in Federal Skilled Workers program in Sept'15 only.
I am based in Ireland (Dublin) and living with my GF. Both of us have been living together for past one year and our relationship is 1.5 years old and I want to take her with me when i Visit next year. Is there a way I can sponsor her ? Please, let me know the process and also if there is any alternative.

You need to be extremely careful in what you do next. If you make the wrong moves, you may never be able to sponsor your girlfriend for PR.

Have you landed yet and become a PR? If not, you need to add your girlfriend to your application (because she is a common law partner) and return your visa (it's no longer valid since it was issued to you on the condition you were single - which you are not).

If you have already landed and become a PR - when did you do this (date) and at that time - had you already lived with your girlfriend for one year?

OK - so based on your other posts - it looks like you plan to land in December.

Here's what you need to do next. You need to be clear that this is the ONLY option if you ever want to be able to sponsor your girlfriend for PR and also don't want to commit misrepresentation and place your own PR status in jeopardy.

You need to return your PR visa to your visa office and let them know that you have a common law partner. In that package, you must also complete all of the paperwork to add your common law parnter to your application (including paying fees, medical, etc.). CIC will then take a few months to process your common law partner's paperwork before issuing a new PR visa to both of you.

Again, since the two of you are already common law, the above is your ONLY option if you want to avoid screwing up your lives in Canada.

Again, no. You MUST add her to your application before you land and become a PR. She doesn't have to accompany you to Canada (you can list her as non-accompanying and sponsor her later). However you MUST add her to your application now (and as part of the process complete the necessary forms, she must complete the medical, pass the security check, etc.).

If you fail to add her to your application before you land and become a PR - you will never be able to sponsor her. You will also be committing misrepresentation (lying) by landing as a single individual when you are in fact common law. This can result in having your own PR status revoked.

Start the process now of adding her to your application. Again, this is your only option. There are no other options available to you.

Please listen to scylla! So many relationships have been ruined because people in a similar situation failed to do what scylla is saying. You must add her before you land.

Yes listen to the advice and follow it. You are officially a common-law couple in the eyes of CIC simply by living together 1 year. It does not matter what the common-law rules are in Ireland, or if you've changed your status anywhere else.

Your COPR document is invalid because it's for a single person, and you are not single. You must return it and add your partner to the app. She will need to get a medical and police checks done.

If you don't do this then you will NEVER be able to sponsor her. This is non-negotiable for CIC.

It doesn't matter what you do next year, you are common-law TODAY so that is all that matters.

If you don't include her in your application now, then you will be banned forever from sponsoring her in the future. It won't matter if you get married later on.
