Hi all,

I've been unemployed since Aug 2014 having moved outside Canada to stay with my husband while our application is being processed. Luckily I can stay in his country of residence by just renewing visit visa's. I plan to look for work however (to help build up some finances) for moving back.

My husband works full time (stable job, same company for past 8 years)

I have to admit, I'm now wondering if the fact that I'm unemployed will impact my SA? I know for sponsoring a spouse, my financial situation is not supposed to matter (I've never declared bankruptcy).

I included Option C for 2013 (2014 assessment had not come through) which shows a decent income.

Perhaps just looking for a bit of re-assurance (although I know no one can guarantee anything :) Anyone else in a similar situation? I included some screenshots of my online banking to show I had bank accounts in Canada (ties to Canada / intention to move back)...but the balances aren't very high ;)

C.

In my case, my wife as sponsor, was unnemployed as well and everything went fine.
All we did was explained how we were planning to support ourselves since she is a student.

My wife is sponsor and Canadian citizen living with me outside Canada since Dec 2014. I have checked with many people there is no minimum income requirement for spouse sponsorship but yeah she mentioned her bank statement with enough balance and stated that my husband have good income and once he got PRV we will move immediately i have enough savings in bank account which is helpful for us to resettle in Canada and my husband Iis also applicable for end of service benefits he will receive when he resigned from his job after PRV, which is also useful for us to resettle.

But don't know above statement will work or not as me and my wife waiting for SA.

We are broke students, my Option C $$ number was embarrassingly low, plus I'm on disability and we got through easily. All I did was explain how we are supporting/will support ourselves (for example, in our case, I explained how my husband is almost graduating and I am in the middle of school and that we have family help).

I also emphasized that we have been living together surviving just fine for x number of years in the same situation so there is no reason to be concerned about the future.

I was told that there were no financial requirements for sponsoring a spouse. Maybe I missed something?

i had a similar question when filling out our application - i was under the impression there was no minimum requirement for spousal sponsorship but was still required to send in a letter of employment and an Option C..? i think, though, that as long as you're not collecting social assistance for anything other than a disability, you should be fine.

There is no MINIMUM financial requirement. However, a couple must prove to CIC that they will be able to support themselves without welfare. This can be through any combination of employment income, savings, investments, family assistance etc.

It is rare but CIC can and has refused spousal apps based on finances.

Yea, this was my worst fear. I think Ontariobat was questioned on his finances and he has a degree. It might just depend on the officer you get, or maybe there is something else they look at that might make them suspicious.Based my own experience it is nothing to do with credit history or money in the bank.
