Sponering infant on trp / but trp expiring in 3 months

My friend is sponsering his daughter infant almost 2 years , she is in canada with him on valid trp but it expires in 3 months 15 days. Will he have to apply trp extention ? What if the trp extention is refused what will happen?
main question is if sponsorship is in process can she stay or will have to leave? He and wife cant leave..

Has he already applied for her sponsorship? It's fairly common as far as I know to get an extension if the application is already in progress
