Hi everyone, I got a speeding ticket in Manitoba last week. This is my first ticket actually. 158 on the 100 limit. Does anyone know how will this influence the immigration application? Basically, officer just gave me this simple speeding ticket, not other charges.

Well that was stupid! Providing it’s just a speeding ticket, you got real lucky. An alternate choice for the officer would have been to charge you with dangerous driving (usually once you exceed the speed limit at an unreasonable rate), and that becomes a criminal offence under the Criminal Code of Canada , essentially the same thing as a DUI. That would be exceptionally bad for your PR status.
Consider yourself lucky and think twice next time. It would be a real b*$&h to find yourself loosing your PR because of a speeding ticket.

Thank you bro. One year passed and I don't receive any other ticket. It is stupid drive like that. I feel so bad, even now. However, thanks that officer save my life. This speeding ticket also be reduced to careless driving since this is my first offence.

That may not be a reduction. What exactly were you charged with? Did you have to go to court?

Careless driving could be a serious issue if you were charged with it and it was a criminal conviction.

Careless driving is under Highway Traffic Act, which is the provincial offence. Instead of losing 10 points on my driver licence, reduce to careless driving only cost me 2 points. Save more than 2 thousand bucks. Not I don't have go to the court. What you say is dangerous driving, the charge under criminal code.

Then you know how lucky you are. If it is the provincial offence, you are not inadmissible based solely on this. You could have entirely lost your PR over this.

Thank you for your kindly reply. You are right and I am so lucky. Police officer said "I can charge you dangerous driving this time, but I don't. You must pay attention next time or you will lose your license." Thanks god. He issued me the speeding ticket and let me go. Few days later I went to the provincial court in my city to see if they can reduce the charge or fine. The staff is nice and agree to reduce it to careless driving and I avoid to pay expensive driver license. It's a important lesson for me.
