Speech therapist/ Audiologist immigrating to Canada

Hi Divya, may I know what are the scopes for a person with a BASLP degree from India? Me and my wife are immigrating to Canada. It would help us immensely if you could provide some information to register, and become a licensed audiologist in Canada. I am aware that in Ontario, one requires a master's degree.
Is it a good idea to get a master degree from India? Or, better to get one from Canada? Can my wife work with a BASLP degree in Canada?

Hi Czeliang! You already know that with BASLP it is not possible to work in Canada. You can register with the regulatory body as soon as you complete your Masters degree. Some provinces require you to clear the SAC exam and others dont. Eg Regulatory body in Ontario, CASLPO doesn't ask for SAC certification. So depending on the province you choose, requirements vary. But its definite that you need to complete your Masters degree to work anywhere in Canada.
Again doing Masters degree in Canada is an option. You can even do it in India. It would be less expensive if u do it in India. Just that you have to make sure your degree would be recognized in Canada.

Hello.

As far as i know, you cannot work in Canada with a bachelor's degree. if you still would like to try, you might have to contact the employer and if they are willing , they might open a position for you. Again it depends solely on the employer. Since our profession is regulated in Canada, you need to be registered in order to work. one of the criteria for registration is Master's degree.

Master's degree from India or Canada?? you should weigh the pro's and con's and proceed accordingly. unfortunately, i cannot suggest what might be good for you.

I am a new comer (pr) to Canada and resides in Toronto. I am with BASLP and 5 years of experience as a speech therapist. I already know I cannot work as a speech therapist ...
1. what would be other possible jobs in the same or related fields.....?
2.how difficult it to get into a masters program with a Indian bachloers ?
3. If i am to change the field ... what would be suggestive other fields in canada ?

1. CDA- can do everything an SLP does except the asses and discharge a client.
2. Very difficult. Not again, not impossible.
3. Depends on what you wana do.

You dont get the job if u apply from India. There r many who applies from here. No Canadian employer would wait for you to land in Canada and then start to work.

Okay! If then u gotta call all clinics near by and ask if there's an opening for CDAs. Am sure someone would give u a chance for an interview.

PR is your path. Unfortunately You will not get a work visa because you aren’t licensed as a SLP. Check SLP provincial associations like Ontario to see how your degree and experience can be assessed. If your CRS score is too low can improving your IELTS or getting 3 years work experience help your CRS score.

Its not mandatory to have Master’s degree. But it will improve your CRS and the chances to get the invitation.

Are there any speech therapists or audiologists who have immigrated to Canada or are now going through the immigration process?
I am a speech therapist and audiologist from Israel. As i understand, in order to work in Canada there is a minimum requierment of a master's degree. But what about immigration? Do i also need a master's degree for that?
