Specialist NOC A or B?

Hi guys,

I'm a graduating honours chemical engineering student, and I'm looking for jobs that will let me apply for CEC under EE. I have an 8-months co-op experience as Validation Engineering Tech., which is the most recent co-op I did, and I learned a lot there, so I'm applying for related jobs.

Some companies name the position of this job Validation Specialist, Validation Engineer, Validation Co-ordinator, Commissioning, Qualification, Validation (CQV) Specialist, etc. Non of these are in the NOC list, and just the word Validation itself is not in the list. If I search Quality Assurance (which is the department that contains validation), it gives a lot of results, but none of them is Specialist. BTW, the companies I'm applying to are mostly pharmaceutical related. And for the validation jobs I'm applying to, as I mentioned the title differs after the work "validation" but mostly the companies require bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science, but some companies require Diploma in Science or Engineering with more experience.

Will they be NOC A or B? Does it matter if it's A or B when I'm applying for CEC with EE?

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't believe it matters as long as your NOC is relevant to the job I'd use 2134 Chemical engineers or 2211 Chemical technologists and technicians.

If you get a job with LMIA doesn't matter, you'll get a pretty good score.

As you probably are under a PGWP most probably you'll be working without LMIA so NOC A could matter, because I suppose you'll get a better score for EE (I really don't know it)

Anyways if you are a graduate you should try to work as Engineer, NOC A, if not possible take any NOC B Job.

Be aware International Students disadvantage is don't get enough score under EE, you should try to stay over 450 (as per latest draws) or over 400 and get Ontario PNP Invitation under EE too.

Note there are other Provincial programs than could be useful for you.

May I suggest to create a EE profile an see how is your score?

Ways to Improve your score are a better English test, a French test, get post secondary studies abroad validated....

No rush but you'll need to learn which are your better options to get PR, Provincial and federal programs changes continously so it's important to stay informed

No. The criteria focus on skilled workers, and any occupation classified as NOC O,A, or B is considered skilled.

The only disadvantage you could face is if you identify the wrong NOC for your job, your application could be refused. Choose the NOC that best matches your job description (regardless of job title, every company is different).

Hmmm..thanks for letting me know. Is it common that a job title that someone is hired as is not listed in the NOC list? Now I'm getting worried if I would get rejected. I might think it's closely related, but the CIC people might not because they are not sure about this type of job.

No. The job requirements are not considered by CIC (there are few exceptions, like if you work in a regulated occupation - e.g.g doctor, nurse, lawyer, etc.). Your education does not need to match the education requirements. CIC looks only at the lead statement and job duties. That is what you need to focus on, to find the best NOC.

What you care about is:

(a) they have acquired in Canada, within the three years before the date on which their application for permanent residence is made, at least one year of full-time work experience, or the equivalent in part-time work experience, in one or more occupations that are listed in Skill Type 0 Management Occupations or Skill Level A or B of the National Occupational Classification matrix, exclusive of restricted occupations; and

(b) during that period of employment they performed the actions described in the lead statement for the occupation as set out in the occupational descriptions of the National Occupational Classification;

(c) during that period of employment they performed a substantial number of the main duties of the occupation as set out in the occupational descriptions of the National Occupational Classification, including all of the essential duties;

There is NO mention of job title. Job title is a label applied pretty much freely chosen by the employer. They could give the lady that vacuums floors in their office "chief flat surface maintenance engineer" job title if they want to. The term "engineer" is not regulated in Canada - "professional engineer" is.

All you care is if the duties you perform as the part of the job match the ones in NOC. If your employer is tiny/shady and is paying you below market rates they might ask for additional proof you've actually performed the duties you claim you did.
