What are you applying for - study visa? No. They are not your funds. If you have a spouse and child assume you are over 22 and should be showing that you can afford your studies. You could do a gift deed where he gifts the money to you.

When does he finish his studies. Where do you live? No you need to show your own funds as well as your husband’s accounts. Your husband would have accounts to show he can afford to live and study in Canada. If you are showing your father’s (you are not his dependant) it shows you can’t afford to come to Canada.

His study visa valid till april 2024. He alredy showed funds in his account to support his study. His study visa already got approved last year. I am living in India and now applying for open work permit. My case is tricky as my personal bank account got inactivated 2 yrs before. I have activated it just now. So how can I show money, if I show then there will sudden rise in bank balance which is also questionable.

So he graduates in April 2024? Where do you live because SOWP can take a very long time. You and your spouse show your combined funds. You are married. Because you didn’t apply at the same time as the study permit getting a SOWP will be harder. You may need to wait until he has a PGWP. You can try with your father’s funds but VOs will want to see the funds of your spouse being able to afford to have his family in Canada.

Can I make joint account with my father to show funds in my name?

You could be it will be suspicious because you need to show maintained funds in the account for at least 4-6 months and VO will wonder if any of the funds are even yours. You cannot just set up an account and apply. Your spouse must show funds too. Processing for SOWP is 54 weeks so make sure your application is strong.

Hey guys,

I’m glad to have come across this thread and have a couple of concerns regarding my Spouse’s Open Work Permit application which was filed in India in January 2022. I have an ICT work permit approved in October 2021 and I am planning to travel to Canada in April 2022. Since I wasn’t married at the time of filing my application, we filed my spouse’s application later with the approval letter of my work permit. I’m very concerned how long the processing of this SOWP could take. Are there any chances of it being approved by June or July this year? Thanks for taking the time to read this post, I would really appreciate your invaluable advice on this.

Processing is long (about 54 weeks) and there is no way to expedite the process. If you get a response by the summer then you are fortunate.
