SOWP (Outside Canada - US)

Hi ,
My employer through an attorney applied for a WP for me (GSS) and SOWP for my wife together on Dec 12th 2022 from the US (NY VAC).
I got the approval on Jan 27 2023 and moved to Canada on March 23 2023 , it has been 5 months and my wife is yet to receive the approval for SOWP(she went back to India).
Since this was applied through an attorney I wasn't able to get the login information for checking the status online , but when checked through IVRS ( I came to know about this option only yesterday) the status said that the background check is currently being done.

When checked with the attorney about the delay she says normally SOWP gets approved along with the WP and she has no clue why this didn't happen in our case.
Now that I am growing very desperate to join back with my family , I asked the attorney if we can apply for a visitor visa (I heard from my friends that it gets processed within a Month) for my wife but she said we should first get to know why the SOWP is still pending and went ahead and submitted a ATIP on May 5 2023 (ATIP is not processed yet as of today).

I have few questions that I thought of asking the experts here ,

1) Can we apply for a visitor visa with the SOWP still pending ? and will it cause any issues in the future visa applications ?
2) Is it true that when applied together both the applications (WP+SOWP) gets approved at the same time ?
3) Does anyone know the current actual processing time for SOWP in Newyork VAC?

Hi, I don’t know the rest about visitors visa but I can tell you about my experience regarding the work permit and spouse open work permit. I applied my close work permit, my wife open work permit and study permit for my kids and our all visas were approved together.

Last year, we applied on 14th March 2022 and were approved on 15th May 2022.

1) Can we apply for a visitor visa with the SOWP still pending ? and will it cause any issues in the future visa applications ? You can apply & a TRV is always hit or miss. Visa outcomes are not guaranteed & your spouse will have to show her own funds, justify purpose of visit and home ties
2) Is it true that when applied together both the applications (WP+SOWP) gets approved at the same time ? Every application is processed differently & there is no such rule that applications will be processed together. Depends completely on the Visa officer.
3) Does anyone know the current actual processing time for SOWP in Newyork VAC? Use the check processing time for average estimate. Nobody can you give you an accurate processing time as all posted estimates are on an average. Every application is assessed for its own complexity
