SOWP approved but expires within 2 months, what to do?

My spouse's open work permit is finally approved but has the expiry date of my study permit which expires in about 2 months from today. I have however applied for PGWP and am in implied status at the moment waiting for my application to be processed. We are yet to receive the stamped passport, but the documents expiry for visitor visa and work permit in the tracker clearly identifies this expiry date.

I would ideally want my spouse to arrive after few months but looks like that is not possible as the visa will expire soon. What are my options?

Also, if we decided to travel within next 1 month would we be able to request a lengthy work permit at the airport based on my implied status. Or would CBSA automatically issue an work permit with longer duration than the said 2 months. It is unlikely that my pgwp would be approved within next 2-3 months.

What would be the best course of action to take? Also, is there any information to be communicated to IRCC now, before they stamp the passport such as updating my implied status with them and letting them know I have applied for PGWP?

Thanks for your inputs.

SOWP when you are a student vs SOWP when you are on PGWP are both different

Permits are issued based on approval and I have never heard of CBSA giving extended permits

You can communicate to IRIS via a webform but it does nothing

Either travel before the expiry or you have to apply SOWP again once you have your PGWP

Good Luck

Thank you for your response. Yes, even we decided it better to fly before the current permit expires.

Here's one more follow-up question, in case you can shed some light on:
  • Would we be able to apply for visitor visa until I receive a decision on my PGWP? And, can that be filed on the last day of her current work permit expiry?

Not hijacking. But following this post because I'm in the same boat. My husband will finish his course 10-20 days before his sp expiry ( backlog). So most likely, he would have just applied for pgwp when my current work permit expires, can I apply visitor record 5-6 days before my current sowp expires. Let me know if you get any solution.

Hi, my wife’s Sowp is expiring in December and I recently got my sowp refusal. However she had to apply for PGWP, should I reapply for my sowp or wait for her pgwp approval and then apply.
