Sorry if this is a dumb question - Where/when do we get a Client ID number ?

We're almost ready to submit, and I saw a great thread where the poster described how she organised the submission. She mentioned labelling the cover sheet with a client ID - where and when do we find that please?

b. Cover sheet – which just basically says:
APPLICATION FOR PERMANENT RESIDENCE
FAMILY CLASS – SPOUSAL SPONSORSHIP
Sponsor:
ABCDEF GHIJK – client ID XXXX-XXXX
Sponsored Spouse:
LMNOP QRSTUV
Please find herewith the following application forms and documents organized as follows:
Envelope 1- Sponsor forms and supporting documents
Envelope 2- Sponsored person's forms and supporting documents
Envelope 3- Proof of genuine relationship

Once you have submitted the application, depending on situation at CIC (rules and policies at that time) you will be receiving an acknowledgement letter, on that letter you will have Client ID also called Unique Client ID (UCI) and File Number. (for people you have submitted Sponsorship request between May – Nov 2011, received acknowledgement letter in April 2013)

From that time onward, whenever you call CIC, you need to identify yourself by using the following four pieces of information. 1. UCI, 2. Last Name, 3. Date of birth and 4. Place of birth
