sop or research proposal???

hello everyone,
how r u???
i am student of biotech.
i am left wid last year of masters
i am planning phd(cell biology),have short listed few universities and supervisors.
is research proposal same as sop??
is rp supposed to be detailed one or just a brief idea???
can anyone mail me a sample of it??
i shall be thankful.

Research proposal is more specific and detailed than SOP..

Your previous research experience, the actual problem you want to study along with some precise study in the related area...
You have to submit two different applications...

Hi balpreet.

sop indicates all your previous study and everything and it will end up with some 2-3 pages. The supervisors will not have time to go through all those pages.
you need to first go through the supervisors under going research work. check if you are interested with their research work .
If so then write a mail that you are interested in his research work and what help can you do to the supervisor regarding his work.
You might have some project works done in your masters you can add them also in this letter.
But remember you letter should not be more than 15-20 lines and it should create an impression for the supervisor within the first 5 lines. In a single line you need to be unique from other applicants because they recieve 100 of mails daily. you can attach your resume along with the mail but dont attach sop or something like that it is useless in this case.

my masters 2nd yr will be starting soon.
I will be doing my project work in the last sem(jan - june 2013). if i start applying by then(after june) it would be too late.
as i looking forward to join phd by sept 2013( dnt wanna waste time)

where are you doing your masters. Is it in india or any other country.
Dont bother about the time by looking at the deadlines of universities. If supervisor thinks you are important he can also offer you a letter after the deadlines but the only thing you dont get scholarship if it is after deadline dates. If not the september intake you also have jan intake left.
