SOP isn't important at all unless you have some specific fact to disclose like a criminal warrant, long gap between studies etc. Just because a person types "I will come back to my country after my course is over" on an A4 sheet, doesn't mean the officer will believe you blindly; that's stupidity. The only way to convince the officer is by showing documents. To show home times, having your whole family in India will be more effective than being goody-goody in SOP.
SOP is for some specific circumstances so that if the officer is in doubt, he can ask for more clarification/documents. Regarding logical academic progression, language abilities etc, the officers are trained to reach a decision without the help of an SOP.
