Hello all!

I am in a strange situation here. Well for me it is strange, maybe common to others

My fiance and i have been dating for almost four years. We plan to marry in June of this year. I am a male of Canadian citizenship. My finance was born in Indonesia and holds an Indonesian passport however has been living and working in Singapore as a PR for a few years now.

My fiance has told me in no uncertain terms that she is coming with me when i leave after our marriage ceremony in June. She has had enough of goodbyes. However i am not sure how to go about this.

In order for her to be admitted into Canada the only option i can see is if she would apply for a visitors visa in advance. Then if it is granted she can come to Canada as a visitor which i believe is no longer than six months in length (please correct me if i am wrong).

Then i would have to sponsor her as "inland" and for her to stay longer than six months she would have to apply for visitor extensions. We would keep applying for extensions until hopefully her application to stay permanently is granted.

I have been to visit her in Singapore a total of four times in the last few years. She has been here twice. We have hundreds of photos and thousands of emails so i think we can prove the authenticity of our relationship.

My questions are:

1) is the procedure of marriage first, then applying for a visitors visa and extensions the best way for her to come immediately?
2) will Cdn customs be inclined to deny her visitors visa if they know she is now married to a Canadian?
3) it is likely she will be granted extensions assuming she is here on a visitors visa?
4) can she work while she is waiting for her application to be put through? Or does she have to wait for 1st stage approval to be able to draw an income and receive health care?
5) as mentioned she is a Indonesian resident, current PR of Singapore and is apply for PR status in Canada (not resident) will this complicate matters?

These are a lot of questions. I don't expect anyone to answer all of them but i am hoping some are willing to shed some light :)
5)

She needs to adjust her reality, you may have to be apart.

My questions are:

1) is the procedure of marriage first, then applying for a visitors visa and extensions the best way for her to come immediately?

Getting married before she is in Canada is likely to mean she will have to wait outside of Canada until her PR is approved.
It seems that a TRV is often refused if your spouse is in Canada.

2) will Cdn customs be inclined to deny her visitors visa if they know she is now married to a Canadian?

See 1.

3) it is likely she will be granted extensions assuming she is here on a visitors visa?

You can apply for an extension if she is in Canada, if the PR application is in process it should be Ok, but there are no guarantees.

4) can she work while she is waiting for her application to be put through? Or does she have to wait for 1st stage approval to be able to draw an income and receive health care?

If you apply inland, then she will need to wait until 1st stage approval. Normally she would only get health care after becoming a PR.
If applying outland, then she cannot work until she is a PR

5) as mentioned she is a Indonesian resident, current PR of Singapore and is apply for PR status in Canada (not resident) will this complicate matters?

Only because she has more details to put in the application.

My questions are:
I can answer a couple of this as to how they related to my wife and I. Who is also from SE Asia (Thai) and me being a Canadian.

2) will Cdn customs be inclined to deny her visitors visa if they know she is now married to a Canadian?
Based on our experiences No, we were married in Jan 2007 and since then we have asked for and received two 90 day single entry visitors Visas for her. The second one we extended slightly to wait for some family coming back to Canada from a trip of their own. We had no trouble getting the Visa's or extending one of them.

3) it is likely she will be granted extensions assuming she is here on a visitors visa?
We had not issue, but again the only difference is we were in fact actual tourists. Not waiting on a PR or planning to apply for one while there.

These are a lot of questions. I don't expect anyone to answer all of them but i am hoping some are willing to shed some light :)
Those are the only two I have any personal experience with. Hope that helps in some way

Thanks for taking the time to respond Bangkokcanuck. :)

I do not mean to pry but why not have her live in Canada as a visitor during the application process? Maybe there is something here that is obvious that i don't understand.

Simply because we are established here now and run a number of local businesses and have kids and we have been told the outland application process is much faster than if she is in Canada already. So for us it's easier to continue along as we have been and let the process take its natural course.

We assume once she is approved we will start the process of figuring out what to take, what not and we have a standing offer on one of the businesses we will sell etc..etc.. right now we don't want to uproot our lives until Canada says ok come on over.

FYI you can apply "Outland" when in Canada.

Thanks, yes I was aware of that more of the weight for not going now is just that it is going to take a lot of winding up of our affairs here and if for some reason we did not get the PR it would be easier to keep on like we are now and not have to start all over again. We would either stay here or consider somewhere else
