Hi Explorer101,

Did you get your banking job by (1) uploading your resume in the Resume Management System of the bank or (2) through an agency, if so, would you mind sharing the name or (3) through an internal source.

Your guidance will be helpful to many of us in our approach towards securing a job on our arrival in Canada.

Cheers....

I applied directly on the website of banks. Through agency one can get part time or full time contract jobs in Bank, no permanent jobs. This is stop gap arrangement made by banks till hiring a permanent employee. The contract worker is not an bank employee and have no right to most of benifits of bank. He has no right to apply for permanent position in same bank for 6 months.

Canada's 5 top are
1. RBC http://www.rbc.com/careers/
2. TD BANK http://www.td.com/hr/opportunities.jsp
3. Scotia Bank http://www.scotiabank.com/cda/content/0,1608,CID13220_LIDen,00.html
4. CIBC http://www.cibc.com/ca/inside-cibc/careers.html
5. BMO http://www.bmo.com/careers/

Interview & Resume tips from BMO :http://www.bmo.com/careers/pdf/09-405%20HR%20Interview%20Tips%20Final%20ENG.pdf
BMO works through Hewit- Montreal. CIBC Manages its own work from Toronto ( finch) and so is RBC from Toronto (kings street)

I suggest concentrate on one type of job, do not flood resume for every type of job.

This agency have contract jobs for banks, they have a studio where they record the interview with candidates and sent it to Hiring Managers. If any hiring manager find it good then he calls the applicant for interview http://www.manpower.com/countryselector.cfm?eventID=33416

Hi Explorer,

Thanks for your quick response. I had 14 months of banking experience and then went to Canada to pursue one year Markeing Management at Seneca College. After completing this, I was there on one year PG work permit and applied for PR under FSW 3. I tried very hard by applying to banks but could not land a job. I worked at a Petro-Can Superstop and a Decorating Centre for one year. Returned to India at June end and now waiting for my PR from Buffalo. Hoping to return to Canada by July/Aug 2011. Will need some good tips from you to get a banking job there.

Cheers...

Many thanks explorer 101,

Perfect !!

This is the aim of the forum. This is the way it must be.

Yeah ! No negative statements, no repetitive questions already dealt with times and times again.

Sharing others's experience in Canada is the most important solutions for our questions and worries. Now we can see why Canada is more difficult than other countries especially our third world coutries. Questions for interviews are not the same so that is new defenitely... Here lays the difference !

Do you understand me members !

God Bless You ALL :)

Wish you the Best EXPLORER 101.

What we hear and read:
1. No Jobs in Canada
2. Racial Profiling
3. New Immigrants doing only labour jobs etc etc.

So, is this distress call?

Can this be called alarming situation in Canada?

Are we making mistake by coming to Canada ?

Should we get discouraged by reading all this.

I landed in Canada 5 ½ months back, being disabled It was difficult for me to lift loads or stand all day. I tried but these sort work was not given to me. Placement agency doesn't have office jobs. When they have perfect people for these kinds of jobs why they would hire a person like me. So, I could not earn a single $ till date and spent a lot of my savings.

After landing I stated observing the job market, requirement of employment, learning Canadian system. Thereafter I started sending my resume – in hundreds. No response. Got to know that I was doing mistake. One should post for selected job posting. I faced 2 interviews in Banks and was not selected. Learnt from mistakes in interviews and got enough to be perfect in interviewing and got my 1st job in a bank. Needless to say I am brown man. I could not have hoped for a better job than this. I could not see any racial profiling for my job; my interview was conducted by white people only. I don't have Canadian education or experience. I can not blame for my earlier rejection on any racial profiling, it was my mistakes which resulted in rejection. Few things are here, like you would see most of managerial positions are occupied by white people but I feel the day would not be far when we are going reach to that positions.

I got excellent help for preparation of interviews from 2 members of this forum and moral support from many other members. Everyone here encouraged me to keep me motivated. That motivation kept me having spirit to fight.
Must also thank youtube from where I downloaded lot of interview videos / tips. Loaded with lots of interviewing skills ( self research / friends/glassdoor.com/ youtube) I became a different man. I became too fluent and too perfect in interviewing skills. I am not genius so I devised hard way. I typed all the interviewing questions and typed their answers also. Any free time and I would be going through the same time and again. That helped me in getting a break.

So at anytime someone tells you, no jobs and racial profiling in Canada don't believe it. Look at this from another angle. Look at that you are lacking some skills and need to improve that to get job in Canada.

If someone observe thousand and thousands of jobs are posted everyday in Canada. It means jobs are here. Do not get down by seeing the unemployment graph. There is a lot of frictional unemployment (people who don't want to work and are happy taking social benefits or people who willingly leave a job to get another job).

Enough for today. My friends- qorax, anu ,chari are going for a party now. Catch you people some other time.

I can say “I started living in Canada.”

Cheer up, Welcome to Canada
Congrats buddy, I am so happy for you. You're a champ. Not many people have the conviction to admit that it was their fault or maybe they lacked the skills. Only once you do, do you take the first step in becoming a better person and professional.

Spoke to Chari last week and would love to meet you guys. Enjoy your new job and all the best!

Cheers,
Puneet

Credential assessment is not job requirement in Canada. It may be required for further studies or Carrier bridge program. Even Co op people do not ask for credential assessment. On the assesment report it is mentioned that it is not binding on any employer or educational institution.
Canadian employers only see the original transcripts and then return it and that too after selection of candidates.
Hope this helps
