Well, yesterday, my fiancée's visitor visa was approved! Yay!

I just wanted to add something for everyone that may help too for getting a visitor visa for your GF or BF.

A coworker suggested that I contact my MP and explain the situation, you could call or even better, go visit and explain your situation. This is what I did. And I know they contacted the consulate in question.

I still don't know if this is what helped, but within 2 days of contacting my MP, she was approved. So, maybe this can help someone else.

Thanks!

I just posted a question that may seem similar. Does my daughter who is going to be married Aug 6th (she and fiance both US citizens) need a visitor visa? He has permanent residency as he is getting his doctorate at the Univ. of Calgary and they need to move back there in Sept. She has been told different things and is now panicking that she won't be able to move with her new husband into Canada.

Congrats on getting the visa approved!! What office did you go through if you don't mind me asking?

As for the couple from the US. She can apply for PR through spousal sponsorship. It is probably advisable to apply outland (through US) because it will probably be faster than Canada. Because she is an American citizen she can come to visit for 6 months while PR is being approved. The only thing is she will have to be willing to go back to the US if the call her for an interview.

Not a problem. From Sao Paulo, Brazil. From what I have read on some forums on Orkut (the brazilian version of Facebook), she was borderline on whether they would accept the visa. She has a stable job, but by canadian standards it isnt that much. She had money in the bank ($3000CDN), but no property, or other attachments. She lives at home with her parents. We did everything we could think of to get this:
- my letter of invitation affidavited by a lawyer
- a letter from her employer stating her job and her vacation time
- her bank statements
- my banking statements
- and the call to the MP (Member of Parliament)

Just hope it helps someone else!

Sure, here is what I had:

To Whom It May Concern,

My name is ____ _____, and I ask that you accept this letter as a formal invitation for _______ to come and visit me temporarily in Toronto, Canada from around __________ for about 1 week. _______ will be staying with me, so she does not need to worry about food and accommodations. I also will be fully for her expenses while she is here.

Should you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Respectfully,

Hi Leroadrunner,,

Thanks so much for the info.

In your letter of invitation, it mentioned that the relationship is Family Friend.

Should we put it as like this (Family Friend) instead of Fiancee ?

Thanks,

Thanks,
Yes, fiancee would be a dead giveaway...and immigration would probably raise an eyebrow a this.

One other thing in the list, as part of her application she also wrote a letter explaining about her work and her career ambition in brazil. Again, not sure if it helped, but it could.

Wow...She just went back to Brazil yesterday...it was a fantastic 2 weeks we spent together and she finally met my family (she knew them over the phone and through emails) and friends. I really miss her. I will go visit in another 2 months.

Now, we are thinking that since she got the visa once and she proved that she went back, we could try again, maybe even for a multiple entry visa. What do you guys think?

Also, if she gets it, then we could marry here. Is there a preference and ease as to where to marry (for the immigration)??? Is it easier to marry in Canada, even is she went back?

Thanks for any experiences and pointers!

Did you also provide a lot of financial information (for you and for her -- like bank statements, etc)?
