I've been in Canada for more than 6 months as an American, they did not stamp my passport on entry, if I go back to the states now, will they let me come back to Canada? I mean how would they know I've been here for more than 6 months and not in the states for the past month or two? I assume they wouldnt do anything more then look at my passport if I went back to the states. I also heard I can still apply for further stay if I havent went more then 3 months past the visitation time limit?

Short answer: most likely they won't find out. They will let you back in if you meet the usual requirements for temporary residence (a genuine, temporary reason for coming to Canada). You might have difficulties if they ask you when you were last in Canada and you lie, or they do find out somehow that you overstayed.

You can apply to extend your stay before the passport stamp has expired (6 months after the date of the stamp, unless a different expiry date is written underneath).

You can apply for restoration of status along with an extension of stay, up to 3 months after the expiry of the stamp, but it's not guaranteed - you have to have a good, legitimate reason for wanting to stay in Canada temporarily, and there's an additional $200 fee for this.
