Some questions

Hello,

I'm German and my Mexican boyfriend is coming to visit me this summer, like every year. Unfortunately, his flights (both) make a stop in Toronto, and Mexicans need a transit visa to enter Canada.

As my boyfriend doesn't know any Englisch or French, I'm helping him.
Still, I got some questions:

1) His flight from Mexico to Germany is on May 31, he'd spend 2.5 hours in Toronto. His flight back to Mexico starts on July 12, after 17.5 hours in Toronto it would go on and end on July 13.
Does he need 2 transit visa? If yes, how? Can he apply for the second one while being in Germany? Which date(s) do we put in IMM5257E??

2) How many CAD are necessary to fullfil the "funds available during stay" question (IMM5257E)?
Would 20 CAD be enough? Is the money checked? Does he have to bring CAD or can he enter with Mexican Pesos and say he'd exchange them into CAD at the airport?

3) In the Family Information form IMM564E, what is the option for Transit visa in the Type of Application section: Visitor or Other?

4) Which additional documents are necessary?
On the homepage of the Canadian embassy in Mexico there's only one list for all kinds of visitor's visa, but on the pages of the VAC's there's a much shorter list (excluding Proof of finances, Proof of current studies, Letter of intention).

5) How to proof best his travel experiences?
He has been to Germany twice, to visit me. But because of the EU/Schengen he just got the "visa" for his stay at the first European Airport he arrived, which were Paris and Amsterdam, so they can't see that he spent all his vacations in Germany. Besides, he didn't come last year, because I visited him then in Mexico.
Do you think adding his old passport (or copies of it) would be enough? If not, what other documents should he add? (Fotos, list of travels, written explanation...)

I hope some of you can help me with this. Please don't feel forced to answer all of my questions, especially the first two are of major importance though.

Thanks a lot in advance,
Greetings from Germany!

I've found some answers by now, but questions 2 and 3 remain open!

Nobody any idea?

Do you think 30 CAD are considered to be enough for a transit of 2.5 hours? and 50 CAD for 17.5 hours?

And on IMM5645E (Family Information): Is a transit visa a VISITOR visa or OTHER?

I'm not 100% certain, but I would think it would be "other" and u can then explain that it is only needed for a few hours of transit while he waits for his connecting flight.

I was looking at fees before as well, and I recall a transit visa is free, where as a visitors visa is $75 and $150. I would choose "other" and then u can attach an extra sheet of paper and explain that it's for transit, and attach a copy of his flight.
