Hi there,

My wife (American) and I are working on gathering all of our information now, and have flagged a few questions. If you have any insight into any of these, we would appreciate it very much :)

1) In the Document Checklist - Sponsor, #4 references an "Instruction guide", where it says: "...Consult the 'Pay the fee section of the instruction guide for acceptable methods of payment". Where can I find this guide?

2) In the Document Checklist - Sponsor, #14 describes a photocopy of the marriage license. We just have a duplicate of the marriage license ATM (the actual marriage license was brought back to the state office where we were marriage, and we took the duplicate on our honeymoon and then back into Canada).

3) In the Document Checklist - Sponsor, #15, and #16 do not apply to us. Do we still check these off? Or should we manually write "N/A" somewhere? It's probably not a big deal, but I don't want to add any confusion.

4) In the Document Checklist - Sponsor, #18, and #19, I just want to confirm, if I am supplying a letter from my employer stating my wage, years working with the company, etc, along with my notice of assessment from the CRA I do not need to provide the items listed in (a), (b), (c), or (e)?

5) In the Document Checklist - Sponsor, #22-26 references "The Immigrant Guide". Where can I find this guide?

6) In the Document Checklist - Sponsor, #24, I dont have all of our travel boarding passes. Will the confirmation email I received from the airline suffice?

Cheers,
Steve

Hi

1. The guide is on the same page as the rest of the application.

2. Make a copy of the copy.

3. Mark N/A on the checklist.

4. You are only required to provide 18. 19 is N/A because you are not not required to meet a minimum income.

5. Section 3 on the application page.

6. It's not referring to boarding passes or airline info. It is referring to the legal documents allowing a person to travel, which is usually a passport.

Does CIC specifically say anywhere that you should mark N/A on the checklist for items that aren't applicable to you?

From the guide:

Be complete and accurate
Complete all sections. If a section does not apply to you, write “Not Applicable” or “NA”. If information or documents are missing, your entire application will be returned to you. You will need to re-submit your application with the missing information or documents.

I guess to me that doesn't read as writing N/A specifically on the checklist next to stuff. I didn't interpret each item asked for on the checklist as a section. There's not really a logical place on there to write anything with the way it's formatted. I'd think really if they wanted people to do that on the checklist adding a checkbox for "not applicable" would make more sense than writing N/A. The form simply says to put an X in the box for documents you're enclosing, so ultimately that's what I went with. I worried by writing things on there unnecessarily I'd run the risk of confusing someone at the processing centre.

It doesn't seem to hurt if you do it, based on seeing some threads, but I also stumbled onto other threads while researching this before mailing mine where people who didn't do that didn't run into issues either.
