Hello,

We're from the Philippines and we're planning to migrate to Canada on July 28..
I have some questions about my excess baggage..

What if I bring my Desktop Computer using an unaccompanied baggage method, will there be a another form to fill out, or will the B4 form sufficient enough for it?

What do I need to expect on customs (questions asked, etc.) upon landing in canada about on me desktop computer?..

Thanks,

mdnpascual

What do I need to expect on customs (questions asked, etc.) upon landing in canada about on me desktop computer?.. Custom will want to know it belongs to you. I will advise you remove all pirated software on the system before shipping it.

Thanks,

Thank you very much barsindoo for the reply,
at least I know now that unaccompanied baggage doesn't need another type of form to fill out..

The likelihood that your ext. hard drive will be surveyed is nil however should it be surveyed and it is found that you bought the movies legimately you are free. I have music that I bought from itunes that resides on my harddrive.

I was wodering because you told "mdnpascual" to remove all pirated softwares from his system before shipping it and i was wondering why? It is illegal to have pirated software (it is against the law of the land). I said he should remove just in case it is booted up. It is an advise not a command.

please reply....thanks in advance

ok, I'm here again, for another scenario about bringing my desktop computer to canada..

3 Questions:

We have a relative already in Alberta, Canada (also were we are headed)

1) What if I brought it via freight(fedex/DHL) what papers/requirements do I need to bring to the freight company so they can ship out my desktop computer..

2) What if the freight arrives before our date of landing, and we addressed to our relative's home (we will also staying at their home) will there be problems about it? (will it be taxed now, not possible, etc.)

3) What if the freight arrives after we landed and still addressed to them, What should I need to do now?

3 Questions:

We have a relative already in Alberta, Canada (also were we are headed) Cool

1) What if I brought it via freight(fedex/DHL) what papers/requirements do I need to bring to the freight company so they can ship out my desktop computer.. None except the ownership document and destination address.

2) What if the freight arrives before our date of landing, and we addressed to our relative's home (we will also staying at their home) will there be problems about it? (will it be taxed now No. Not even later so long as it is listed in your goods to follow. If it arrives before you, it might be kept at the courier's office for you to observe custom formalities., not possible, etc.)

3) What if the freight arrives after we landed and still addressed to them No. You will be required to go to custom to clear it, simple., What should I need to do now? Nothing. Wait till it arrives.

Personally I think this might be a more expensive route.

May we know what's the configuration of that D/T PC?
And why'd anyone like to bring-in a D/T here?

Used ones r available from $70 [complete set with VDU, CPU, K/Bds etc.] till about $200 [for a Core2duo]. Why take the trouble?

Was just wondering.

My Desktop Computer is costed about in 1100USD$ so leaving this behind is a no-no for me
I tried selling it here but no one wants to buy this leet hardware :'(
Its a quad core AMD 3.0GHz, with ATI 5770, 23.5 LED Monitor, Kboard+5200DPI Mouse on ATX-tower..
so its still kinda high end.. Owned it for 1.5 Years, and all my Programming works/Artworks/Vectors/Video animations are in this d/t computer
I'll be bringing my D/T PC for my studies, (Computer Science Student) also so my parents can use it for finding online jobs (when we were oriented, they say that having a personal computer in Canada is a big advantage for searching jobs)

You might wonder why do I have a High-end hardware with me is because I need to have a fast computer for programming, High-end video card and large monitor for making/rendering my artworks/vectors and Video animations (well I already ditched my 2nd LED monitor because Its already a hassle bringing a 2nd monitor to me)

well anyways, I got it all wrap up, I called the airline earlier and they suggested me this: The LED 23.5 Monitor will be HandCarried, They also say that I can put my desktop computer as a check-in on its Original packaging box with styro's and lotso bubble wrap (I'm still trying to think about If I can put clothes instead instead of bubble wrap) I'll just add an additional fee and they can make it as fragile on it..
