Hi,

I have been approved for PR and got my Canada Permanent Residence visa stamped on my passport in January. My visa expires end of July and as my current passport was close to expiry, I got a new passport issued from my home country.

I wanted to confirm if I can travel with both my old passport that includes the permanent visa stamped and my new passport to Canada for permanent landing. Any one else had similar experience and was able to travel and did landing in Canada ?

Appreciate help in this regard.

Is your old passport still valid and has not been cancelled?

If so: travel with that one. In fact you'll have to because that's where the visa is. The 'six months validity' rule does not apply to those travelling to land - although you may have to argue a bit with the airline about that.

Doesn't matter which you present for the landing formalities, it will not be 'coded' to your passport but to you as an individual. (May want to show new one to the landing officer, and that officer probably will want to see the one with the visa).

You can then leave however and on whichever passport you want - there's no departure/passport formalities on leaving Canada (except those of the airline).

In general, when a new passport is issued, the old passport is cancelled with an explicit note that mentions that the visas in the old passport still remain valid till their expiration date. So, yes, you should be able to travel to Canada for your landing with both your passports.

I have not been in the same situation as you for landing but have entered Canada with an old cancelled passport containing a valid TRV and a new valid passport without any issues.
