@Meylis Correct, you can leave before you receive the cards. And yes, if you do not have the card on re-entry, you’ll have problems. In fact, you won’t even board the flight to leave your country of origin as it’s required since you’ll have no visa.
You have to figure out a way of having the cards sent to you to ensure your re-entry into Canada. If the address you provide is a friend’s or a relative, they should be able to send them to you. If it’s a UPS store, they should be able to forward all your mail to which ever address you give them.

Yes, I read about PRTDs, but that would be a little hard for me to do as I will have to fly to another country to get it. We don't have Canadian consulate/embassy in my country. I have friends in Canada, guess they could just send the PR card to me.All is not lost though of course given Meylis can apply for PRTDs from outside Canada to come back if they are unable to organise the PR cards being mailed by a friend or UPS.

I was in Canada for 4 months, for my soft landing. Could have been shorter but was hoping to leave with my kid's card, until I gave up.awesome!!!

No, I didn't open bank account at that time, but I was able to access my funds through VISA ready ATMs.
I tried to do that before I landed. I contacted 3 stores but none of them was willing to do it, so I waited until after I landed. You could try... May be you'll find that one store that can sign you up remotely. Just call them, their contacts are indicated on the UPS website.Hello,
I was looking for similar information - were you able to apply for UPS mailbox even from outside canada? i mean to say can i have this signed up before landing to Canada and give this address on the port of entry?

I have question : do we need to file income tax during the period between short landing and the date we back for permant stay ?
According to official web site, our case have not establish significant ties to canada before permanent living , so i assume those income made from non canada source is no need to file income tax in canada right ?

I have a question about applying for my first PR card when I first land. On the IMM5445 form they ask for your Canadian residential address, however, I don't have one as I would be entering Canada for the first time. I have family in Montreal so is it okay to use their address as my residential address even though I received PR through the FSW program? Would that create any problems in the future?
I ask only because it is my understanding that I would not be able to settle in Quebec after landing in Toronto but placing a QC address as my residential address implies that I would be settling there. Is this a valid set of assumptions?

I landed on 4th Oct 2017. This is a soft landing. I thought that as it takes around 2 months to receive the card so I shall collect my card and then return. But some said the delivery of a PR card could sometimes take more than 4 months. In short I concluded that the application processing time of 61 days on the website is not concrete. So I decided to leave as I did not wish to exhaust my funds. But a few friends suggested that it could be a bad idea. They said that sometimes if the IRCC faces some issue with your application then they might call you in person. As I would not be in Canada at that time I shall not be able to re enter without a PR card. As a result I would lose out on my opportunity to become a PR. Also for PRTD it is totally at the visa officers discretion to give it to you. He may also deny it and so we cannot count on that option completely.
Though I feel better that I can leave but I am not very sure. What do you guys suggest? Thank you.

Totally wrong suggestions by friends..........as you exit airport, you become PR.......PR card is just travel document, if it is lost, or not delivered by you by friends/relatives, you can apply for PRTD.............and after seeing your documents that you are a valid PR, there are no issues for release of PRTD document.
it is not illegal to post PR outside of canada. it is not illegal to give friends/relatives address to collect PR. you can always go outside due to any emergency at any time. for remaining PR, you have to spend 2 years out of every 5 years in canada

Also, after landing and exiting do we really need to be present in person for any procedure or formality. I know of an issue and that is that they request for photographs, which I think we can send through courier. Another one I've heard of is that if they are not able to deliver the PR card at the mailing address then they have to do a hand to hand delivery in which you have to be present in person, right?
I think I am taking a little risk by returning before receiving the PR card. But sadly I have no options.The link is right. Your PR status does not guarantee approval of your PRTD application.
On whether you should be present or not for any procedures, I believe it is ideal after all.
