Hello Friends,

I am planning to do soft landing in Saskatoon in Sept/Oct for 7-10 days... Then I would be shifting permanently in early next year.

One of my friend's agent told him that to get PR card, one must stay 45 days continuously in soft landing too?

Does this true? Is it a official clause? If not, what can possibly go wrong if I just stay 7-10 days and come back? I just want to get SIN, submit PR card details and Open bank account. Can all these be done in 7-10 days?

Can anybody please confirm me on above?

You can get your SIN the same say as you land assuming the Service Canada locations are open. PR card is mailed to you later to a Canadian address. You can have someone forward the card onto you in your home country.

As for heath card check the requirements on the Govt of Saskatchewan website.

You can do all of the above in a single day:

- get your SIN number first
- then go open a bank account (make sure you have some evidence as to where your money is coming from, withdrawal receipts, etc.)
- take your hotel card with you, since you'll need an address for the bank account (or the address of a friend)
- be aware that sometimes banks require your money to stay in for surprisingly long; in 1990, when I studied here, they cashed a US cheque in two weeks, now it's more like a month . . .

You will apply for your PR card on landing when you give them a Canadian address, just get one from a friend to use.

Seven to ten days is actually quite a lot, living on the road is expensive, though it will give you a good idea of what Saskatoon is like. Usually I recommend against informational interviews, but in this case, it might be worthwhile to find a few large companies you're interested in working for and seeing if you can set up a meeting with HR. Tell them that you've just immigrated, that you'll be arriving permanently in a few months, that you're interested in working with them and would like to say hello, as well as asking if there is any personal training you can do before then that might be useful. Save the name of the person you talk to, and if you do apply in a few months, reference it -- anything that gives them a bit of familiarity with you is useful.

Friends, I have 2 more questions..

1..Does anyone has experience with UPS Saskatoon ? How does that renting mailbox process work as I am outside Canada? I am considering to rent UPS mailbox to provide address for PR card delivery.

2.. Lets say if someone comes to Canada for short trip and if the person gets offer from one of the employer from Canada after the person leaves & PR card still in progress, how can person enter to Canada without PR card?

Thanks...

1. i have no information about this.
2. if you don't have your PR card, and you require a visa to travel to canada, then you need to apply for a PRTD (permanent resident travel document). it is reported it takes 6 mo. to get the document. the application can be found on the CIC website. If you are visa exempt, then all you need to travel to canada is your passport, and your COPR will be enough to get you back into canada once at immigration.

you are doing soft landing in Saskatoon but maybe i missed where you are coming from given you have to do the PR landing at first point of entry into Canada and flying for example internationally that may not be Saskatoon

Hello, I am Indian passport holder working in Qatar. After doing my soft landing, I would be coming back to Qatar.

6 months for PRTD????   No employer will wait that long...!! PR card itself takes 3 months only... If this true, it means I shall not apply jobs after returning from my soft landing till I get PR card..??!!

@BS65... Could you please explain with more details as I am not able to understand you are referring no to UPS mail box or no to returning after landing job when PR is in progress?

I just assume you know there are no direct international flights to Saskatoon from India or Qatar so you will do the PR landing at the first point of entry into Canada as an example Toronto depending on route into Canada wherever the connection is before Saskatoon given the connecting flight into Saskatoon being a domestic flight there would be no immigration at the airport there to complete a PR landing.. Wherever your connection point/first point of entry is into Canada you will need to ensure you have plenty time between flights to complete PR formalities.

@BS65 ... You are correct dear.... I would ensure that I have sufficient time at point of entry for immigration formalities.

As of now my worry is if I get job there once I come back from Canada, it would be difficult to enter without PR card. As per present trend, processing of PR card takes 3 months easily and I cant even opt for PRTD because if it takes 6 months, I would be stuck in Qatar without passport as my passport would be for PRTD processing.. 6 months without passport in middle east is too risky..

So if above true, I shall not actively apply for jobs in Canada till I get my PR card in my hands...:(
