Hello,
I have couple of questions regarding marrying before & after getting canada PR.

Scenario:
-I received my ITA in Sep 2019, submitted documents in Dec 2019, biometric in Jan 2020 and was expected to receive the response by June 2020. However, due to covid situation the response has been delayed.
-I am 30 years old. (if this information is going to help somewhere)
-My boyfriend wants to get engaged before I go to Canada to obtain my PR. Also, he wants to get married as soon as possible looking at medical condition of his father.
We both plan to settle in Canada once he is done with family responsibilities. Meantime, we will manage visiting each other every 6 months.

Questions:
1. Can I get engaged (just a ceremony among two families-no legal documentation) in the meantime that I am waiting for update on my PR Status?
2. Is it advisable to get married before or after marriage?
3. If getting married before getting Canada PR, what are the consequences that can be faced?
4. If getting married after getting Canada PR, how long do I have to wait before getting married?
5. I plan to wait till I obtain my PR. Once I get my PR, I will land in canada once stay for 15-20 days, come back to India and get married in 2 months, stay in India for 6-7 months.
After which I wish return back to Canada to settle. Is there going to be any complications in this scenario?
6. How long can I apply for PR for my spouse after getting married?

1. Yes, this doesn't change anything for your application as you are just getting engaged.
2. This question doesn't make sense.
3. If you get married before you get PR, your application will need to be updated to add your new husband (points, biometrics, bg check, etc). This will set the application back until all of this is completed for him.
4. You don't have to wait a certain amount of time in this case. You can get married at any time.
5. Ok, your spouse will have to apply for a TRV if you want him to move to Canada right away with you. This might be an issue as not many spouses usually get approved as they are not seen as true visitors. In this case, you will have to be ready to be separated for around a year while the sponsorship is underway.
6. You can apply to sponsor your husband right after you get married, provided you have all needed documents.

Mostly answered by @Qwertypod . . .

Assuming question 2 is asking whether it is advisable to get married [before becoming a PR], or to become a PR after the marriage, that is an entirely personal decision. (My spouse might say that it is advisable to NOT get married at all.)

BUT the response by @Qwertypod for question 3 is a major consideration in that decision. If you marry before becoming a PR, your spouse must be included in the application and go through the full background screening, including medical screening. This applies even if you only got married the day before you travel to Canada to do the landing (that is, even if it is AFTER you get the PR visa). This is very important!

Also note, however, IN CONTRAST, if you are cohabitating before you come to Canada and do the landing, depending on the circumstances, Canada might consider you to be in a common-law spousal relationship which would require your partner to be included in the application and screened. Thus, for example, if the circumstances of your relationship are such that Canada might think it is a common-law relationship (regardless of legal formalities), it might be better to go ahead and marry (so there is no doubt about a qualified relationship), and include your partner (it will add time). This would avoid any risk that Canada concludes your partner was a common-law partner and forever excluded from being sponsored if your partner was not included and screened.

Just to add that you need to return and live in Canada to submit the sponsorship application. This is why Qwertypod said you may be seperated for around a year if your spouse couldn't get TRV.

This is another important consideration in making the personal decision about WHEN to marry.

Hi. I just landed in Canada as a PR and as soon as I obtain the PR card, I am planning to leave Canada for a few weeks in order to get married. Is this allowed under the current law because they are saying that we need to come to Canada to settle permanently and not go live elsewhere, even if it's temporary?

Yes it is legal although the government is trying very hard to prevent unecessary extra travel to control the spread of covid. If you leave you must be prepared to potentially get stuck outside Canada if there are additional travel restrictions.
