Hey all,

My partner and I have until December to activate our PR, by entering Canada. On our application, we chose Vancouver as the city where we will live at. This hasn't changed, but because we are not planning to move to Canada any time before February, we decided to travel to New York City for holiday, and then soft land and spend two days in Toronto, in December. The idea is to activate the PR, before it runs out of time.

Would that be an issue, as we don't intend on living in Toronto?

Thanks for your time.

There is no problem in that. Many people do that.

Would they question anything though? Or ask for proof of income or address? Because as we will just be soft landing and not planning to move, I was worried this could be a problem.

Plus, would they accept me providing my current address at UK to then receive the PR card via mail, or would I need to provide an address within Canada?

Thanks!

You need to provide a Canadian address for them to send the PR card. It will not be sent to the UK.

They might ask proof of funds and they couldn't care less that you're soft landing.

You will need to have a physical address in Canada (friend or relative) where they will send your PR cards. You will need those cards to return to Canada. Note that they take a couple of months to arrive.

Ok. If it is alright to send it to a friends house, that shouldn’t be a problem to us. As long as this is allowed by them.

In regards to proof of funds, do I have to go through all the hassle with banks again to get a proper letter showing everything, or as long as I show a paper of the last month’s balance would be enough?

Thanks again, everyone!

That's fine. Most people are not even asked to provide it.
