I will be coming to Canada for a soft landing, around 5 - 7 days and will be returning back to my home land to wrap up things here.
Since I am travelling light, I am bringing some baggage of my friends living here. The usual - clothes, some home cooked food or perhaps some home made snacks. The weight of these items, however, could be 30 Kg or more. Since I can carry 23x2 Kg of weight.

Now, I was going through some of the first landing rules and I came to know about below few important things. Please correct me if my understanding is wrong about any of the things.
  • Form BSF 186 (Filled for the items you're bringing in during your first landing)
  • Form BSF 186a (Filled for the items that you will be bringing in when settling - Good to follow)
  • Regulation No. 9807.00.00 (Custom/Duty rules for the Canadian settlers)
My questions are:

1. Is there any weight limit for an immigrant who is performing soft landing?
2. Is carrying 30+ Kg an issue if I am making a soft landing?
3. Do I need to fill up both BSF186 and BSF186a forms even if I am soft landing?
4. How 9807.00.00 comes into picture of all this and what do I need to take care to make sure for smooth landing and baggage clearance?
5. Since this is soft landing, do I need to fill in BSF186 or will I be filling it once I will be coming to settle?

Forum members who have made soft landing please enlighten.
Senior members also please share your pearls of wisdom in case I have missed anything important here.

Thank you!

No weight or bag limit for a soft landing or any landing CBSA do not care as long as everything that needs to be declared is declared. You at least need to declare all food and currency where total is greater than 10k CDN , any currency.

Up to you but many people would always advise against carrying any luggage for anyone else whether friends or relatives. Why complicate your PR landing if asked if everything you have with you is yours and it isn’t ? Are you planning having got this far to lie to CBSA ? Ok they might only be clothes but the intent Comes across as the same.

If were me I would politely find some excuse to not carry anything for anyone else especially as you imply you yourself are travelling light and want to secure your PR landing. Your choice in the end.
