"Hi guys, it looks the discussion has changed from the topic and heading towards Finland!!"

Haha..If you can make it in Finland one winter, you´ll make it anywhere, believe me! ;D
BTW I am not recruiting people here, but since I am heading to Canada, there´s at least one post open as a RN.. ;)

Hi, I am new to this forum. I am a Canadian and am sponsoring my wife , so that is why I came here.

I'm just curious about something, what makes Canada so attractive to potential immigrants?

I have heard that the economies in China, India, Malaysia, East Asia , Brazil etc.. are booming. So why do these people still come to Canada? Is it only for the passport?

I see so many immigrants here, highly educated driving taxis and doing odd jobs, so why do they leave places like India or China?

Canada has probably the lowest investment in R&D and technology when compared to other countries, so why do highly educated immigrants keep coming here?

I'm just confused.
Read this case and you would know why this poster wants to leave India:

Hi,

Discustion about coming to canada and the positive points, is so intresting for me and I got so many experience here.you know in canada(ontario)there are many many immigrants from different countries. If you honest with yourself, think about the real canadaian and canada, canadian people respecting you even more than the people from your country and you never feel you are not in your home country.you feel here you are a usefull member in canada. After many years being in canada , I lived almost for 7 months in the best state in US(california), I had my worth experience in my life. The people here are so different.Ex: Indians are here differ from Indians in canada. Chinese, asian,....all the same as Indians.People here all the time in fighting each other and no respect.Honestly, you dont see anybody smiling(so simple)If somebody wants to know the befefit of being in canada, just travel for a few days to your home country , will be clear that life is here is so different in good ways.

I am from Greece and the situation is awful over here, it's not only the extremely high unemployment, it's mostly the lack of prospect even if you have a job. I am a Mechanical Engineer, couldn't find a job relative to my studies, I am working in a watch store, uploading watch photos, using Photoshop and doing online/phone sales for 800 Euros per month, have to pay crazy taxes, the cost of life is generally higher than in Canada (with a few exceptions such as transport) and my friends consider me very lucky for having a job, especially with the above salary, since most people work 60+ hours each week for 600-700 Euros a month.

My fiancee is a Philologist and can't find a job for 3 years now, not even as a receptionist but is now under the process of getting citizenship by her Canadian father.

I realise I won't be able to find a job in Canada as a mechanical engineer of no experience at all, at least not for some years to come, but even if I find a job at McDonalds or similar for 1800+ per month, it will be much better than over here and I'll also have the prospect/hope of finding something relevant to engineering in the future and be able to offer a better life to my family.

I have lived in London England for a bit due to being transferred there for work. It gave me a chance to travel around Europe.

I really did not like Europe at all, esp London, the city smells like Urine. Canadian cities feel so much cleaner and better. London also feels so crowded and everything is so tiny, esp the narrow roads and streets, I hated it, was so glad when I left. Tiny little houses with closet size rooms. Even Paris was so dirty outside of the touristy areas.

Also there are so many dirty ghettos all over the place and a lot of people esp in London don't want to work their happy with council houses and government benefits, gangs of youth also roam around the streets harassing people. Since you walk everywhere there are more chances of running into odd people, was robbed twice at knife point by youths.

For me personally I think the U.S and Canada are much better than Europe.

I am sorry that you have had so bad experiences from Europe. I have been visiting almost every big capital in Europe (and some small) and I must say that I will miss the lack of ancient history and old buildings when living in Toronto. But I do like the city, it is not the most beautiful one that I have seen but I am sure I will like to live there among the nice Canadian people. London smells urine..? I cannot agree with you on that.

I guess I saw a ghetto for the first time in my life when heading New York from Boston..we don´t have ghettos in Finland.

And I have noticed that many Canadians don´t really love the Americans.. 8)

Well I don't have much experience with California, but I do with Texas. I still think U.S is much better than Europe. I don't like tiny crowded cities, and old buildings. I like wide open roads and more spread out cities. Europe just feels dirtier to me. Also the houses in Europe are so old and dirty.

Also what you notice in U.S or Canada is that immigrant communities are more successful and integrated. For example the Pakistanis in North America are much more successful and integrated than in England, over there many live in ghettos and commit gang crimes.
