I am from Greece and the situation is awful over here, it's not only the extremely high unemployment, it's mostly the lack of prospect even if you have a job. I am a Mechanical Engineer, couldn't find a job relative to my studies, I am working in a watch store, uploading watch photos, using Photoshop and doing online/phone sales for 800 Euros per month, have to pay crazy taxes, the cost of life is generally higher than in Canada (with a few exceptions such as transport) and my friends consider me very lucky for having a job, especially with the above salary, since most people work 60+ hours each week for 600-700 Euros a month.
My fiancee is a Philologist and can't find a job for 3 years now, not even as a receptionist but is now under the process of getting citizenship by her Canadian father.
I realise I won't be able to find a job in Canada as a mechanical engineer of no experience at all, at least not for some years to come, but even if I find a job at McDonalds or similar for 1800+ per month, it will be much better than over here and I'll also have the prospect/hope of finding something relevant to engineering in the future and be able to offer a better life to my family.
