According to information in this forum you need to apply for extending visitor status 30 days before expiry of current status.

But on the CIC Call Centre, you can apply right up till the expiry of current status.

So according to one source it's too late for me to apply for an extension, but according to the CIC I still have 28 days or so to apply.

If it is too late and I have to leave Canada and then re-enter as a visitor, does anyone know how long I need to leave for?

Please help if you can!

On the guide it says 30 days before the expiry of the current status. But you can't send it on the expiry day itself. Your application extension must be received at CPC-Vegreville before the expiration of your allowed visit. It is not too late to send your application if you still have 28 days. Send it thru a courier and track it so you are sure the application packaged has reached its destination. Check your package, that it is complete, with the marked pages (Canadian entry) and the bio page of your passport attached, and the fee receipt included.

Thank you! Does what you said apply to online applications too? That was how I had planned to apply.

My other big question, and what was delaying my application, is whether or not I am allowed to be working for clients in my home country (Australia) while here as a visitor and whether I can say that this is how I support myself while in Canada, (the proof of funds section of the form).

You need to attach the supporting documents with your application and if you can do that online then yes it applies. Hmmmm, as to fund support, you can show a bank statement, if you have one. It is not illegal to be working for your clients in Australia and you are getting paid there (I assume), but do not put more information than what is being asked for.
