Skilled Worker - Librarian?

Hi, all!

I am looking to secure a librarian position in Vancouver, BC. There are several opportunities. I currently have my Masters in Library and Information Science and have over a year of experience as a Systems Librarian, as well as 6 months as a K-12 School Librarian.

I see in some cases, Librarians are listed as "skilled worker," but according to the CIC, librarian is not listed.

I am trying to relocate to be with my future husband. He works as an animator. I'd love to work and plan for the wedding while in BC (I currently reside in New York State).

Based upon the above information, and your knowledge of the system, what are my chances at finding a Librarian position within Vancouver, and receiving a job offer from an employer with an LMIA?

I know we can't predict the future, but I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this type of relocation and if there is hope for me -- as of now, the move seems so distant, it's hard to plan my future without coming across speed bumps!

Thank you!

To the best of my knowledge, librarians are like teachers - too many qualified individuals and not enough jobs. So I believe an LMIA will be very difficult to secure.

If your relationship with your future husband is serious, the best course of action would be to get married soon and then have him sponsor you for PR via family class.

Ah, I see.

I had read that librarians were among the skilled workers that were sought, but I must have been mistaken. As it takes 6 years of schooling to become a librarian, I wasn't sure what type of interest there was for the position in Canada. I know there are very few Canadian schools that offer an MLIS, but I believe many Canadians received their MLIS through an ALA Accredited program here in the states (as a few Canadians were earning their MLIS through Buffalo with me).

The issue for me was rushing a wedding. He had a very quick, small Vegas wedding the first time around, and I had a fairly large wedding. We wanted to plan a bit, rather than wed simply for sponsorship. However, other than pursuing a PhD (which is still an option), it seems that the quick wedding for a sponsorship would be the way to go.

On that end, once you're married and applying for sponsorship (which can take upward of 3 years, it seems), are you able to live and work in Canada on an open work visa? Or would I have to wait those 3 years and continue to live apart, working in the states until my sponsorship goes through?

I know this is more for another board, but I've asked over there and they referred me here. And here... I'm being referred there. :)

Thank you to anyone who can provide guidance. I truly appreciate it.
