LANDED..........

hi guys, I am going to land in April, and want to buy a car in Ontario (variety is like 10 times bigger), then move westwards to SK with the car.

I am not sure whether I'd buy from owner, dealer, and if so would it be a Certified Pre Owned.

What is the process? Must I pay double the provincial tax? once in Ontario and then again in SK?
How do I get some temp insurance, temp title or whatever? the process is obscure enough for in-province purchase, and I cant find any info for a landed immigrant buying in one province (not as a resident) then moving to another immediately.

Thanks!

If so, why not consider buying a car in Alberta because:

1 - no provincial sales tax

2 - shorter driving distance than Ontario to SK

Interesting idea, I am specifically looking at Toyota Sienna AWD, around years 2007-2009 probably not higher (due to budget).
SK has total 4 results for "toyota sienna XLE", while Ontario has over 50.
AB has 30+, so its a massive difference, although right now I dont see those years in AB...

So, assuming I wouldnt find something suitable in AB, does buying in ON and transporting to SK means double tax? no way around it? makes no sense...

Check if buying a used car would require paying a tax or not. It might be possible taxes applies only once when a new car is purchased but subsequent trades on the same vehicle are tax-exempted.

1. Only in Alberta is there no sales tax on used/new auto sales.

You'll have to pay Saskatchewan sales tax regardless of where you bring it from. You'll also have to get an out of province inspection done in Saskatchewan unless it's fairly new and from Alberta or BC.

You will probably have to hold a drivers licence issued in Canada prior to being able to register and insure the vehicle.
