Single-Entry Permanent Resident R-1 Visa to USA

Since my PR Card expired in 2008, I obtained the Single-Entry Permanent Resident R-1 visa for legally entering to Canada this Fall, my question is: During my stay in Canada, can I visit USA and come back to Canada with this kind of Single-Entry R-1 visa?

Doesn't the phrase "Single-Entry" imply that the answer is no? It should be cancelled after first use at the Canadian border.

Not with your R-1 Visa. However, if you do not have a PR card then you can enter with your passport and landing paper provided you do NOT enter Canada in a commercial carrier.

My landing paper was taken back since I had PR Card.

The CIC website indicates:

Single-entry temporary resident visa:

If you have a single-entry temporary resident visa, you will generally need a new single-entry visa to come back to Canada.
You can request to return to Canada on your original single-entry temporary resident visa, if:
you will only visit the U.S. or St. Pierre and Miquelon; and
you will return to Canada before the end of your approved stay in Canada.

Question is: Does the Single-entry PR R-1 visa belong to Single-entry temporary resident visa?

How much clearer do the words "Single Entry" need to be ?
Single means 1 ( One)
That means 1 ( One ) entry only.
