Hi all, although I am in Canada, i visit this thread once in a while coz I really wish all of you will get it processed faster and start preparing your new life. I know you make the decision due to many reasons but many people just want a good education and future for their children. For those of us who live in India, Pakistan, Philipines etc, it is a transition from a developing country environment to a more developped enviroment. However, I have a question regarding people who already have a good job in Singapore and their kids are enjoying good education at Singapore schools. To me, I think that Singapore is far superior than Canada, before I migrated I think Canada is a paradise, but I think this rosy picture was painted by immigration agents and firms that benefit from this immigration process. Let me tell you that life in Canada is much worst than Singapore. The salary in Canada is lower than Singapore in most professions but the tax is much higher. Usually an accountant with 5 years experience here can earn 30-40K a year (for immigrants), and after tax it come to 20-25K a year, which is barely enough to survive. Cost of living is very very high. Although medical is free the waiting time for non emergency treatments are years and years and no coverage for dental or eye treatments which are very expensive. The society is highly discriminated against immigrants and oversea qualifications are not recognized. Most immigrants work survival jobs for the rest of their life unless they go back to school. There are no career prospect for immigrants, we have to go back to school for many years and start from scratch again if we want to have a proper career in Canada. It takes 5 years to obtain Citizenship compared to 2-3 years in Singapore. I would suggest that those already have a jobs should not quit the job when you got the visa. Take a 2 weeks leave and go and see the first hand how Canada is before you make the final move!
