Thanks so much for the detailed reply.

I do have a question about the police check. The CIC website says we need to get a letter from them to bring to Bangkok police station. I haven't been given any letter yet though. We thought about just going but we're far from Bangkok and don't want to waste our time and money.

I'm curious how others in Thailand are doing it. Are most people just going on their own? Did you bring any CIC letter (like the this one: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/pdf/PC_LetterA_e.pdf)? Has anyone gone and been turned down for not having the proper letter?

Thanks for your help!

Yes, I filled that letter out by hand and gave it to them. You could also bring along some official document from the spousal sponsorship application and explain to them that you are applying for a visa to Canada and need the police check. We didn't have any trouble without the official request letter. We just sweet talked them into giving it to us :)

We live in Northern Thailand (2.5 hours north of Chiang Mai) so I understand how it is time consuming to go to Bangkok and not very convenient... The first time we flew down to Bangkok to get the police certificate, but then we needed to get it renewed because we didn't submit the application as soon as we had hoped and were able to renew it from afar. I'll PM you some information of how to do it from afar.

For us we just showed up to royal thai police headquarter and we got it one week later by postal mail ;)

Thanks for the replies. Seeing how long it has taken people (1-2 weeks in some cases), I feel less worried. We might just wait until the request since it's not a very convenient time for us now.

The official time to process it was 2 months when we went... but what we didn't know at the time was that there was an option to pay an "express" fee to make it happen in a week or 2.

Hi, do anyone know how long does it take for SGVO to send back the passport and COPR documents?
I'm still waiting 3weeks today since I send...hope we will get passport soon
