SIN number from outside Canada

Hi all,

I need help to understand if SIN number can be applied from outside Canada? Or is there a way to get it from outside.

The problem is that my spouse has to join an organisation on OWP. They are not open to deferring the joining date as they've already waited for 2 months.

We can't travel as I'm enrolled in Dalhousie which is in NS and they haven't listed any NS institutions on the DLI ready list yet.

Is there any way to save the job.

There is no way to apply outside of Canada. Your spouse needs to enter Canada and activate the OWP, then apply for the SIN once in Canada.

If the company will allow your spouse to work remotely, that can be done outside of Canada without a SIN. Once your spouse is in Canada, the SiN will be mandatory to work.

Thank you for your response Scylla. The company that's employing him has clearly mentioned that they can't employ without a SIN number. I guess we'll have to just hope that they agree to postpone the joining date.
