SIN Number delayed

Hello, I applied for my SIN online and it has been a month since and I have not received it. Does anyone else is in this position? Or knows something about it? I tried calling but they don't answer the phone. The wait time is crazy. I need to work and I'm not sure if having the SIN is mandatory. I have a work permit.

What did you do to get your SIN

apply in person at the nearest Service Canada office. you get a SIN there and then

Yes, you can go to any Service Canada or apply online. Online takes a few days to arrive but if your documents are not correct they won't let you know. So if you have the time to go to an office is better.
