Hey everyone..!

My PGWP is getting expired in MR-2016 next month (after 2 weeks) and so is my SIN. I've already applied for BOWP and haven't received/heard anything regarding that. I also do have a PR file going on under CEC category applied back in AU-2014. I just have received MR and heading for it next week.
So should I apply to reissue/upgrade my SIN?? Do they do it? Would MR and AOR enough to support my SIN upgradation?

Thanks to all for your valuable and helping inputs..!!

No, you cannot get new SIN using MR or AOR. You have to wait till you get your BOWP and get new SIN. You can continue working when you're in implied status.

These are requirements for SIN

Temporary residents

You must provide one of the following primary documents:

Work permit issued by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC).

Study permit issued by CIC. International students must present either:
•a study permit that indicates the permit holder “may accept employment” or “may work” in Canada; or
•a study permit and a “confirmation to work off campus” letter issued by CIC prior to February 6, 2015.

If neither of these requirements is met, you may contact CIC to verify if you are eligible to apply for an amended study permit.

Visitor record issued by CIC, indicating you are authorized to work in Canada.

Diplomatic identity card and a note of permission of employment issued by Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada.

Important note for temporary residents: You will receive a letter confirming that you have been issued a temporary SIN. The SIN will begin with the number "9". Your SIN expires on the date indicated in the “expires on” field of the letter. This expiry date is based on the CIC document that authorizes you to work in Canada.

Thanks for the info..!

But what if I change my job and the new place ask for my valid SIN card??
And for other uses for example Bank and other such institutions also ask for SIN in order to persue any requests by customer (eg. Opening/closing acc). what should be done in such cases??

When you're in implied status or going to be, its better to remain in same job. Very few employers take risk with people who are in implied status.

When you change job, most employers ask for copy of work permit or they ask you to show the original permit. Very few do ask for SIN. Recently, govt has stopped sending SIN cards. Instead they are issuing only papers which confirms that you have been issued SIN and has expiry date on it.

Mostly when you go to banks to open new accounts and if you're very new to the country they ask for your Passport or other government issued IDs and they also ask for SIN. You can simply take your SIN confirmation paper and that works. If you want to open a bank account, open it now as you have your permit and SIN number valid for two more weeks.

FYI...

•On March 31, 2014, Service Canada began issuing SINs in paper format (confirmation of SIN letter). Production of the plastic SIN cards has stopped.
