Hi,

I was on PR in Canada, but due to domestic violence, I flee and return to my home country, recently I read about child benefits and SIN number and its importance.

However, while leaving, my ex-husband did not return any of these documents for my daughter. Now I did not file any taxes since 3 years and my PR card is expired, am I still eligible for CCB or is it not my right to ask. My daughter was born in canada.

If you are not in Canada, you are not eligible for CBB. CBB is to raise your child in Canada. Nothing to do with child being Canadian. Having Canadian child gives no benefits to you. So when you return to Canada , set up your CRA accoun and you may be eligible if you are a tax resident.

So that means all money goes to my ex-husband for free, when he is not paying anything. Should I report it ?

Where is the child? If child is not in Canada, then he cannot claim the money. When he files taxes he would be proving child is in Canada. If he is still getting then money you can report him to CRA.

The child is with me, outside Canada. How would I know since I dont know my sons SIN number so I dont know how to go around this situation. Could you all guide, like I have sole custody of my son from outside Canada. What should be my first step?

Send an online form. You just need name and address. They can track him down with that. How do you know he is claiming CBB?

He had all the CCB directed to his account when we were together. He never handed over the SIN of my child. So I am just suspecting. It may be true and may not be true.

Also, is there any way I could get my sons SIN number re-issued since it is important document for him and I dont want anything of his to go missing.

Since you have forgotten it, then look at the link. Your son can always get it later when he returns to Canada.

You should definitely be reporting potential fraud to CRA regarding your spouse but you are also required to inform CRA that you left Canada.

And no you can’t get your son a new SIN. That’s only done in extremely rare circumstances. Example identity theft

New SIN as in the duplicate document, or a re-issue.

Is there any possibility to open an account on my sons name and let all CCB be deposited in his account, which he can use, once he requires support anytime in his life?

You just want a new card. CCB is for a parent to raise child and not the son. So parent decides where to deposit and how to use funds. Child must be living in Canada for parent to get CCB and your child is not in the country. What you are suggesting is fraud.
