Simple question

This may be a dumb question .. but is there a difference between the different Application numbers ?
Example : F000XXXXXX and B000XXXXXX

I am not sure but I am thinking that like the UCI #'s the application numbers for sponsorship and PR are different... everything my husband received had only the F number on it but everything I received had both numbers therefore matching our files together? who knows LOL this is the CIC after all
