should i withdraw my application now?

I moved to Canada in 2007, found work, and then applied for PR recently. After the CIO accepted my application under arranged employment I lost my job!!! I've since returned to Ireland but now I can't meet the minimum funds requirement as i don't have arranged employment. I worked in Clinical research for 19 months. Can someone here tell me whether I should continue with this application? I still exceed the points even without arranged employment but the funds requirement is now a problem.

I really appreciate any advice from people in the know. this sucks! I lost my job, my home, my friends and all the trappings of my life. I just need to know whether i should put this behind me?

Sorry to hear about your dilemma's.
Would you please let me know how you moved to Canada in 2007? Did you then apply within Canada for the PR?
From what I know, one cannot just move to Canada and start living there, start looking for a job and then apply for PR.
Pardon my ignorance, If I am missing something in this situation.

hi bobby,

yes, i moved over on an open work permit. a student swap visa. when it ran out my employer applied for the LMO which i got and all was good. not a problem. so i was there perfectly legally and wouldn't do it any other way to be honest. it's just now that i've lost my job i decided to return to ireland as i can earn a lot more money over here. my visa doesn't run out until feb 2011 but it has the condition that i must work for the company i was working for. i have all the documentation including a letter saying i would be employed indeterminately which i got off the company months ago. my problem now is that i'm afraid they'll reject my application based on funds requirements. with arranged employment i didn't have to meet the minimum funds but now that the employment is gone i reckon i'm in trouble. do you know what i mean? i'm doing all this myself, trying to navigate the intricacies of immigration and not really sure. i'm being 100% honest with them as i'll never go 'cap in hand' to any country. i'm just thinking should i get my 550 dollars back if i'm in losing position?

by the way, Darwin is my all time hero. studied genetics in all its forms from evolutionary to medical. buried in westminster abbey which is a highlight of my life. sorry to be off topic i know this is an immigration forum but just had to mention it. another highlight was seeing stone temple pilots in copps colliseum in november. god i miss canada

Are u still in employment in Ireland? If yes, why don't you stay put there for sometime and "build" yourself up again a bit before planning to go back. If I were in your shoes, I would continue where I am in the meantime (Ireland), provided I have a good paid Job and then plan the next move. I mean from what you "unshielded" earlier on i.e losing your job, home, etc
So, again, why don't you try and build a solid platform/base where you are right now before taking the next step.
As you already know, without job offer, I am pretty sure you will need to show the required minimum funds.

This is my opinion on this situation of yours.
Lets see what others have got to say especially PMM, LEON and RUPESH.

yes i will be staying in ireland until i have enough money. the problem is the 120 day limit on submission. i have to submit in the next couple of weeks my full application. i wouldn't return to canada without a lot of money. when i went the first time i realized very quickly how hard it is to set up in canada. i certainly wouldn't attempt to move there without at least $10000. it's like any other country it's all about who you know. but as i say i only have a couple of weeks to submit. my situation exposes a weakness in the new process. i will continue to apply for jobs while here and i will return to canada someday but i fear my current application is doomed before it's even processed.

it's certainly true my friend. i love the place and it's way of life. i've never felt more at home in my own skin while i lived there despite the fact that in toronto they would step over your dead body to get ahead. its an aspect of north america that i wouldn't be in a rush to get back to and a little alien to me. its half a dozen of one and 6 of the other. there's massive pro's to living there but huge drawbacks. my only regret is not seeing more of the country. maybe i'm just a european at heart, although i can't help but feel that i haven't got the glamour and glitz of the great white north out of my system. if the worst thing that ever happens to me is the rejection of my PR application then i'll be a lucky man!!! if its for me it wont pass me as my dear old grandm would say. she was a little deluded though.

aidan- i really like what you said "it's just the end of this chapter in my life" and that is very true. PR, Work Permit, Passports are just few steps on a long journey; life is much more then just PR. You will find other opportunities in life that will be even better so keep you chin up and stay positive.

You guys are funny. A clinical researcher will spend at least 1/3 of his/her salary on rent alone in most places in Canada. Unless you are very social and have low privacy needs (e.g. can put up with several roommates).

Aidan, that really does suck, but it sounds like you had something good to go "home" to, at least. Question - no chances of another job in Canada? (yes, I know the process for a new LMO, and I know the economic conditions...). The reason I ask is because with 19 months employment, if you could get another 5 months, you'd qualify under the Canadian Experience Class program (no proof of funds).

So, you are in the 120-day period between receiving approval from CIO and submitting the full app to the local visa office, yes? (Buffalo?)

Some say that if you don't submit your full application, it will automatically be rejected and your $550 refunded. If you submit the documents and it enters processing stage, you can't get a refund anymore. And it is a requirement to still be employed to obtain the visa, so, in the end you would just lose that $550 application fee.

I was kind of in the same place regarding withdrawing my application, and decided to request a withdrawal and refund, rather than waiting even longer for them to reject my application.
