Should I rely on CEC?

Hi everyone,

I will have completed a year of Canadian work experience on my post-grad work permit 7 months from now. This past week, though, I decided to go ahead and take the CELPIP exam to submit my Express Entry application anyway (fortunately, I did very well and got a CLB 11). Having had 3+ years of foreign experience in my primary occupation, I've met the minimum requirements for FSW and my current score is 409 (includes spouse). Once I complete a year of Canadian experience in September 2024, it will increase to 457.

The thing is I'm afraid that might not be enough since the last CEC draw happened in September 2021 with a 462 points cut-off - please correct me if I'm wrong. Plus, my PGWP expires in September 2025 (they only gave me 2 years). Should I be worried and start looking for different ways to increase my score (e.g., improve French to take exam)? Or is it likely I'll be fine relying on CEC to immigrate?

I would definitely not be relying on CEC.

There are no plans to conduct a CEC draw. You shouldn't rely on it. Instead see what you can do to improve your CRS or work in an in-demand profession. Nothing is guaranteed in Canadian immigration, so always do more than what's required.

I see, thanks. Looking at my other options, it seems like I could be eligible for the BC PNP Skilled Worker Stream, but since I'm an admin assistant (which is not one of the in-demand professions) I'd be placed on the general pool, and I'm not getting the minimum score needed for an invitation based on the latest draws.

I do know a little bit of French, so I'll look for a course to see where I'm at and start studying at least 2 hours a day to try and get the minimum score for EE. I should've thought of this sooner, but oh well. I'll hold on to my current job so that in the worst case scenario I can try and get my employer to obtain an LMIA for me (which shouldn't be too hard since they're a big company and next year I'll have been working for them for over 2 years).

Yes, I did french to improve my scores too. Worth it if you can!

Dont think the CECs are gonna happen. PNPs is your best bet. Maybe find a job in Manitoba or Sas where you ll be able to secure a PNP nomination

Talk to your company now. Many large organizations are not willing to go through the LMIA process. Confirm that with them now.
