Should I Pursue a Study Permit with Alacrity?

This is my first post here, so please bare with me.
I'm one of those people who bare the unfortunate Yemeni passport. Although I possess that passport, I bare no association with it; I'm born in Saudi Arabia, and have been residing there for the entirety of my life.
I'm having a hard time convincing myself whether pursing study outside is worth it; so far, my last visa application was only a time killer.

I happened to apply to Australia, Melbourne (UoM) initially; while the enrollment was swift, the visa was (and still is) a worry. 5 months into applying with no response. I currently deferred my offer for August and still am desperately waiting. Acknowledging the presence of unrest in the region, I cannot guarantee that my response will be positive. Hence, I'm thinking of applying elsewhere to secure another spot in case all goes wrong. I'm here to ask how reliable is the process in Canada. Let us safely assume that my enrollment is guaranteed, and my finance is reliably covered for now. Friends abroad do encourage me to try for it, as it seems student friendly and tolerant...but at this point, I just don't know.

For me, the important aspect of my application is the time it takes to get a response rather than the response itself. If my application will take 1 month to process (as stated in the site), I'd be more than happy to apply -- that would mean I am bound to get a response soon enough to search for another prospect (in case its negative). I might sound like a pessimist, but please understand my case ; I just do not want to lose more precious time. It is only now that I realized trying out Australia was a mistake from my side...not for the decision, but the TIME it takes to make that decision....

Don't get me wrong, the precautions taken into the process IS logical; but the fact that I already lost what practically is a year intimidates me to study abroad...it literary is an internal conflict between Ambition and Demoralization. :-\

Sorry for the dramatic text, I hope someone can advise me even with my complications and worries :S

It's really impossible for any of us to say whether your study permit will be approved or not. I would not count on the processing time to take just 1 month. Plan on 2-3 months.

Similar to Australia, to be approved for a study permit in Canada, CIC will want to see that you have strong ties to your home country and have no plans on remaining in Canada long term.

Pretty much what I needed. I don't mind the result, I just wanted to clarify the accuracy of the processing time.
Given my case though, would you go try out for it anyways?
