Hello,
Can you please advise should I need to keep PR cards of my both minors with me during Oath Ceremony to cut in front of citizenship officer or should I need to keep and cut only mine ? Because my both minors will attend the oath ceremony.
Please help

You will need to cut your minor's pr cards too, it's a requirement If they will be taking the oath with you.

It's a tricky situation. For us, the clerk asked if the minor son is with us and we said he is in the next room(actually he was). We said he is watching TV with his younger brother(Born Canadian), and wouldn't be attending the oath. I was asked to cut his PR card, which I did in front of the camera.

I am not sure what would happen if we disclose that the minor applicant is not in Canada. I didn't want to take that risk and travelled with the kids to Canada for the oath. IRCC can get all our entry-exit data from the CBSA to validate our claims, if they want to.

We stayed in a hotel for the oath and the clerk asked if we are in a hotel room. When I said yes, they asked me to show the outside of the window on the camera and I showed it to them in the zoom call. I wasn't surprised with this request from the clerk, since the same happened for a friend of mine before. This gives an idea that they wanted to make sure that we are in Canada and not trying to cheat them.

Sorry but just confirming if your minor is visiting back home, they must have their PR card with them so they can come back to Canada, you should not be having it right ?
Even if you want to cut it without revealing they are not in country, I don’t see that’s possible.

Even if they are not taking oath with you just because they are minors but they are included as part of citizenship application and they are receiving citizenship. So you have to cut their PR cards just like you cut your PR card to avoid using PR card after citizenship.
They dont want any citizen to use the PR card hence they ask on cutting them when you receive citizenship.

Immediate travel is the issue for all of us. So plan accordingly.

My officer was even asking my minor son to be present during ID verification. So make sure your kids are with you during oath till ID verification if in case they ask. Kids can leave after ID is verified and PR cards are cut.

I don't know much about the oath procedure etc but understand they must be in Canada.

But: worst case scenario, all is not lost. Once you are a citizen, you can apply directly for their citizenship as minors, all they need is to be PRs (and I understand resident/physically in Canada, but there is no oath ceremony at which they must be present).

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/application-forms-guides/application-canadian-citizenship-minors.html

It does cost $100 but only takes ~six months (perhaps less). No, I've no idea about returning fees from the current app you have for them (if they can't complete); it mgiht be possible but I just don't know.

This thread has apps of this sort:

I already applied for their citiz
I'd go ahead and make sure you get yours and apply for their citizenship when they are in Canada. See post above .
I have already applied for my kids and their applications are processed along with my application. They just left be for getting the oath invitation.
Can anyone advise according to the situation ?

You can try calling IRCC and asking. I assume but do not know for certain that they are expected to be in Canada for the oath ceremony. If they can't - as noted - worst case, you start over for them (but significantly simpler and shorter procedure).

Hello everyone,
In a similar situation. I have a child (minor 3.5 year old) on my application who will be outside Canada at the time of my Oath Taking Ceremony with his mother. The application includes my child and myself. Since it is optional for minors to attend the ceremony, is it necessary for the minor to be present inside Canada at the time of Oath Taking? Any insight would be highly appreciated.

Yes, cut the kid's PR card during the ceremony.
The name itself indicates it : it's a PR card, aka a card specific for PRs. A kid after oath isn't a PR anymore and thus cannot use the card...
